They Try To Do It Like Me

Kellin giggled as he fell through the air, making an "oomph" sound as he made impact with something. I hurried over to the edge and looked over, my heart thudding and saw he was being cradled by Mike.

'Kellin!' He simply giggled even more, getting out of Mike's hold.

'Your turn.' Mike said, trying hard not to crack a smile.

'I do not in any way approve of this,' I said, dropping down into Mike's arms.

'Sure,' Mike grunted, tipping me out of his arms. 'See you.' He ambled off, readjusting the hat on his head.

I turned around to see Kellin still laughing, his cheeks going red.

'My cheeks hurt.' He spat between bursts of laughter, rubbing his face.

'Good,' I said walking over to him and walking away from the stages and heading towards the buses. We were a few stops away from home and I was eager to get back.

Kellin

I had seen Mike move back towards the container, and it had felt amazing in the split second long freefall. We could have jumped off the top of the container anyway and not hurt ourselves that badly - Vic was just overreacting and I had toyed with him. As we were going towards the buses, Vic received a text message.

'Do you want to drive in the bus with me?' He asked after he had read it, locking his phone and stuffing it in his pocket.

'Sure, why not?' I answered, linking my hand with his and swinging it between us.

I enjoyed the sunset on my skin before it slowly started to draw away, the Earth continuing to spin so that the rest of the world could experience daytime. It was barely light enough to see when we reached the buses, clambering on to them.

'I just need to tell everyone to get on board, and then we're going.' Vic said, climbing into the driver's seat as I got into the passenger.

I flicked on the radio as Vic texted the guys, his fingers flying over the keys. A sweet song came on, the acoustic guitar filling the cabin. I had no clue of the song name, and the lyrics were sung low enough that I couldn't distinguish them without having listened to the song many times over. I lightly tapped my fingers on the door handle, finding the slow beat.

'It's a gorgeous song.' Vic said quietly, so as to not break the silence. I made a hushed noise of agreement, taking Vic's hand and drumming out the rhythm on it instead. We simply looked at our hands as the sky grew darker, the song flipping to the next track a few times, me changing the tempo of the drumming for each song change.

'We're all here.' An all too familiar voice said in a break between songs.

'Thanks, Josh.' Vic said, starting up the bus and pulling out of the park.

'You're welcome,' Josh said, disappearing. Josh, although new, was quite a positive addition to my husband's band. He was always full of energy and seemed eager to make a good impression on the guys. From the sets I had watched him play, he had only messed up a few times. His stage confidence had also grown, and Tony had gracefully stepped back and let him dominate the stage when Vic was up at the microphone singing and not changing his position dramatically.

Vic still interacted with Tony, but mostly with Josh, giving him hugs and swaying to the beat with an arm wrapped around his shoulders when one of the guitar techs was playing guitar for him. Josh and Tony had also created some of their own stage moves and, when they were in sync, it looked amazing. Most times though they messed up because one of them got the timing wrong, which was hilarious. Either way, it was a win-win situation.

'So, how many shows have we got left?' I asked Vic.

'Three?' He said, unsure. He glanced at me and laughed, 'I have no clue. They just kind of blur together in the middle. I know when it's the last show though.'

'Well, that's not good enough. You're more organized than I am, you should know.'

'Speaking of organized, did you tell the guys that you're riding with me?' Vic smirked at me, before turning his eyes back to the road.

'Shit. No.' I glared at Vic and started rummaging through my pockets for my phone. 'My phone's on the bus.' I groaned, realizing my mistake. Vic shuffled around and passed me his phone and I quickly rang the guys.

'Hey,' I said quickly when I realised the had picked up, 'I'm kind of on Pierce the Veil's bus at the moment.'

'We figured,' I heard Gabe's drawl answer, 'and we need you back at base.'

'Right now?'

'Right now. Sorry, bud, but one night away from hubby isn't going to cost you.' I poked my tongue out at Gabe, even though he couldn't see me and motioned for Vic to pull over.

'Okay, I'm at a gas station about half an hour away.'

'Okay, see you there.' Gabe hung up and I handed Vic back his phone as he gave me a puzzled look.

'There's trouble in paradise. I don't know what it is, but I've gotta go.' I said, hopping off the bus and giving Vic a light peck. 'The guys will be here in about twenty minutes.'

'Wait, Kellin-' Vic started, but I had already shut the door and was walking towards the gas station, wrapping my jacket around me in the cool night air. I had five bucks in my pocket, and a Monster sounded good right about now.

Vic

I watched Kellin walk off into the expensive shop next to the station, him motioning for me to leave. I sighed and stepped on the accelerator.

As I hit the road again, my mind began to wander, soaking in the barely distinguishable lyrics of the sweet music. The guitar work was clean, and had a ringing quality about it, the sound rich and full of texture. It blended smoothly with the lightly used drums. I shook my head as silly notions entered my head. I couldn't write acoustic songs for a full album; it was too far a stretch from our sound.

But Kellin wrote an acoustic EP. It's not that much different. My mind argued back. I shook away the thought, it was only a musical craving I had right now, and besides, the album wasn't due to start being recorded for several months.

'Hey Vic, fancy a drink?' Someone asked.

'Yeah, thanks.' I said, indicating and switching to the next lane.
