I Guess I'm Praying After All

'Now you're just somebody that I used to know!'

'Now and then I think of all the times you screwed me over,' I was able to make it to Mayday's set on time, and I was singing the final song with Derek. It had been fun, and reminiscent of old memories. Going into the studio to record, playing with the vocals, listening to the finished product. And even doing this, singing with Derek on stage at past Warped Tours, and even on the Spring Fever Tour.

'You said that you could let it go,

And I wouldn't catch you hung up on somebody that you used to know!' The instruments cut out for a second, a rest a millisecond long, allowing my voice to ring out into the air. Even the kids had gone silent.

'But you didn't have to cut me off,' Derek continued singing, playfully pushing me.

'That was so much fun, thanks for that.' I said, giving Derek a hug after the performance. He simply smiled and downed half a bottle of water. As I walked off to find my band members, Kellin rushed over to me.

'Hi Vic.' He said happily, wrapping his arms around my neck.

'Hey Kells.' I replied, pushing him off. 'I'm sorry, but I'm all sweaty and gross.'

'That doesn't bug me.' Kellin shrugged, giving me a cheeky smile. After wandering around Warped for a little while, we had discovered that Kellin was playing at five, and he must have just been returning from his set. Sleeping With Sirens weren't on main stage, they were on one of Kia's. I pulled out my phone, panic rising. If Kellin was already here, that must mean that it was time for my  set to start.

'Shit,' I said, seeing that it was five minutes until I had to be on. I rushed over to the stage, Kellin's laugh ringing in my ears. He knew full well what the time was and where I was supposed to be. I tripped over a few stray amps and mic stands in my haste to get to the stage. When I arrived, Tony, Mike and Josh were already on stage. I raced out, red in the face and my breathing laboured.

'Hey guys!' I shouted to the crowd who had roared at my arrival. 'Sorry I was late. How many of you were at Mayday's set?' A few kids at the back of the crowd cheered and I grinned at them.

'You were awesome, Vic!' One of them yelled, presumably at the top of their lungs. But by the time it reached me it was more like a faint whisper.

'So, who's ready to hear some songs?!' I yelled, plucking at my guitar and throwing myself head first into the song.

'If every living thing dies alone, what am I doing here? What am I doing here? Oh no!' I finished the song, my voice lingering in the air. 'Thank you very much, we'll see you next time!' I shouted into the mic, Josh giving the crowd a small wave as he started walking off. Tony was already out of there, scampering away to take care of his beloved guitar. Mike was already discussing with Casey who was going to pack up which drums and the fastest way to get them back into the van. Mike nodded at something Casey suggested and chucked his drumsticks into the crowd before getting up off his seat and jogging away with it, while Casey started picking up the smaller drums.

I walked offstage and packed up my microphone and guitar, putting the spare picks in a snaplock bag. I helped with the rest of the pack up, before spotting Kellin sitting on one of the containers, swinging his legs.

'How'd you get up there?' I asked. The container was at least the height of Kellin, and it would be near impossible for him to jump up without any help. There were also no defined hand or footholds. I saw Mike walking in the opposite direction a smile on his face. I ignored him though. He wouldn't help Kellin do something so silly.

'Mike, of course,' he said happily. Or maybe I was wrong. Kellin patted the space beside him.

'Come on! Up!'

'I wouldn't be able to.'

'Yeah, you would.' Kellin persisted, once again patting the space. I sighed and walked up to it, reaching up as far as I could with my hands. Kellin lay down on top of the container and grabbed my hands, pulling me up. I half-stumbled half-walked up the side and fell on top of Kellin as we succeeded in sitting on the container.

'So, now that I'm up here, what do you have in mind?' I asked, not willing to move off him.

'This,' he said, placing a kiss on my lips, 'now get off me.' I rolled off so that I was laying on my back and looking up at the sky. It was sunset, and the sky was a million different colours and shades. Kellin stood up and I saw him leaning over the edge.

'We're going to jump.' He announced, backing up a few steps and tensing.

'Oh, no no no no.' I said, scrambling to my feet and grabbing his wrist. 'No, you're not. It's too risky.'

'So? Live a litte.' Kellin said, taking a step. I only tightened my grip on his wrist and pulled him back a little bit.

'Kells.'

'Come on, it'll be fun.' Kellin yanked himself out of my grip and ran to the edge, holding his arms out Titanic-style. 'Whooo!' He yelled as he slowly tipped himself over the edge.

'Kellin!'
