[Michael]
It was actually a huge thing for Michael to unintentionally make Alex laugh, or to even make Alex laugh at all. He thought that making her laugh was as impossible as a human breathing in outer space without a space suit on. The fact that they'd been laughing and talking about ridiculous things all the way to Jace's house made him feel uneasily great. The snowflake that was Alex was somehow miraculously melting right before him.
Although it was really happening, it was quite a confusing thing. He saw her uniqueness in physical beauty, that was always given in snowflakes. He was now beginning to maybe see her inner beauty, her inner qualities, and in all honesty, he thought that Alex was even more complicated than the intricate designs of a single snowflake. Complicated, but mesmerizing. Cold, but beautiful.
He began to see, to hear things he never expected of the girl. The way her eyes would crinkle every time she laughed. The way her cheekbones were lifted up so perfectly in a way that her face lit up like an angel's whenever she would grin. And her smile, that godd.amn smile. Michael already thought she was so beautiful when she wasn't in the best of moods. Now that she was smiling, Michael felt his heart beating so hard in his chest, he felt himself finding her even more beautiful.
"So," Alex interrupted Michael's train of thought. "What are we even supposed to do when we get there?"
Michael tried to act cool in front of Alex. "We party." Really Michael? 'We party?' Such a smartass, you deserve an award.
Alex chuckled. Score. "Really though, I'm not really into the whole 'partying' thing," she sighed. "I'm usually that one person who's standing up alone in the corner not holding an alcoholic beverage, or that one person seated on the couch who doesn't have anyone to make out with, or that person who needs to go to the bathroom and looks for it awkwardly and ends up walking into the wrong room and ends up seeing two people naked and getting it on."
For some reason, Michael thought that her self-labeling was a pretty stupid thing. Even though he didn't want her to be that party slut, or the girl who hooks up with every guy at the party, or the girl who gets too drunk and wakes up naked with a guy in bed, he didn't think Alex deserved to be that alone at a party. He noticed that she usually (maybe always) flew solo. It was impossible that she didn't have any company at all at her previous parties.
"Well at least you haven't walked into more than two people getting it on," Michael made a joke out of it. "But seriously, we'll have fun at the party. If you don't have fun for the next two to five hours with me, you can hit me in the nuts. I promise you, it'll be fun."
"I swear to god, if I don't find myself having fun, I might end up doing worse. Might end up pouring some muriatic acid on your balls," Alex spoke jokingly, but little did she know that Michael was actually scared for himself. He was scared of the things Alex could possibly do to him, you never knew with her.
Michael laughed along with Alex, but after a few moments Alex stopped laughing, as well as walking. She just stared off and looked a bit shaken. The boy began to wonder why she just stopped in the middle of all the fun they were having, so he took a moment to take in his surroundings. He began hearing the music blasting not-so far away, and there he saw the house. They had arrived at Jace Rogers' house.
"Hey, I told you earlier that I wouldn't let any douchebags get a hold of you. I also promised you that I wouldn't leave you during the party. I meant what I said," Michael looked Alex in the eyes.
Alex took in a deep breath. "I don't exactly trust you enough to do this, but I'm scared enough to depend on you keeping your word."
Michael led Alex to the front door. "Just trust me with this. I wanted to take you out on a date and I guess this is the price I have to pay. I don't mind playing bodyguard much, anyways."
