Lost In The Cold

Chapter 1

"Its beautiful outside!" Exclaimed 14 year old Xia as she looked out the window. It had been snowing all morning and as a result, it turned the woods into a winter wonderland.

"Bye guys. I'm just going out for a stroll in the woods." She said. Xia puts on her scarf and coat and turns the door knob.

Karu turns her head from a bookshelf and Ace looks up as Xia was about to head out the door.

"Can I tag along? Just in case you get lost again?" Ace says smiling at the last two words.

Xia looks over at him with a 'really?' look."Um, nope I'm fine on my own! I'm not a little kid you know."

Ace shrugs and continues to read his book."Well, ok then. Just be back before 4. I don't want to go out and search for you agai-"

"YOU'RE NOT MY DAAAAD!!!"
Xia yells as she walks out the door.

Karu shakes her head and laughs. She pulls out a book and sits beside Ace.

"I think you act way too much of protective person to her than a friend. Why do you always act like this when she does something on her own?" Karu asks him. She has been wanting to know this ever since she met Ace and Xia. She would see Ace stick to Xia and follow her wherever she went until she turned 13. Unless it was some sort of event he wasn't supposed to go to.

There was a short pause.

"Well, because before her parents left, I promised them I would always be at her side and protect her from any harm. I don't want to break my promise so I try to be as loyal to her as I can without acting like her I'm her babysitter." He says looking at her."But...I don't think she likes it when I do that." He shifts his position on the sofa. "Why do you ask?" He tilts his slightly to the right. He always does this when he really wants to get an answer.

"Oh just wanted to know. Beacause I've seen you walking around with her most of the time."

There was another awkward pause.

Karu gets up and starts to walk towards the door."Aaaaanyway, thanks for letting me borrow your books. Its like you got a whole library in here." She says quickly, putting on her coat.

"No prob! Just don't come back with it ruined please." Says Ace smiling.

Just as Karu got out of Ace's, house she noticed Xia was standing under a nearby evergreen tree. It looked as if she was waiting for Karu to walk out the door.

"Xia, I thought you were going out for a walk. Why are you still here?" Karu asks her curiously.

Xia looked down and stared at the white glistening snow around her boots. She opens her mouth as she was about to say something but then turned around to the direction of where the woods were located."Actually, never mind." Xia says starting to walk slowly. "Have a nice day, Karu..."

Karu looks at Xia with a puzzled look. "Um okay. You too Xia!" She says to the cyborg fox. She turns around to walk back to her house, wondering what Xia was about to say.
