what if i told you that i had this whole book planned out?

Chapter 10:

Catherine's POV:

Bethany and I sit down a cross from each other in the half way full library.

"How are you?" I ask.

"Fine." She doesn't smile.

"Has he...?"

"Yes."

"I wish there was something I could do to help." I sigh.

"I don't blame you."

"Are you okay?"

"I'm fine, just tired." She smiles, tiredly.

"Oh."

"I'm going to go to bed, okay?"

"Okay. See you tomorrow?" I ask, gathering up my books.

"Sure. Catherine, will you, um, have this?" She hands me a small necklace with a ring on it.

"Oh, Bethany. I can't."

It was far too beautiful for me to have. Why would she want me to have it when it probably had value to her?

"Please? Just have it. I want you to."

"Okay." I agree, taking it from her shaky hand.

As she leaves the library, she bumps into the desk, making all the pencils and scissors fall to the ground.

"I'm sorry." She apologizes to the nurse, helping her pick everything up.

"It's fine, dear." Then she's gone to her room.

At about 6:20, I hear a scream pierce through the halls of the institution.

I see many nurses running down the hall to the nurse outside a room. The nurse is hyperventilating as the others usher her out. What happened?

Walking out, I walk down the hall and go to see what all the commotion is about.

My heart rate picks up as I realize who's room it is, it's Bethany's. My walk turns to a run, and I get a peek into the room before a male nurse pushes me back.

I feel nauseous as the image of Bethany laying on the ground with her wrists slit. The bloody scissors sit on the ground, a few feet away from her.

"Oh my God."

"Catherine," Dr. Jenkins hurries over to me, placing a hand on my shoulder as tears fall. "You need to go to your room."

"That's Bethany!" I cry.

"I know, I know." He says, and goes to turn me around.

My eyes land on a male nurse carrying her lifeless body out. Not just any nurse, it's him.

"You!" I yell, making his attention turn to me. "You did this you asshole!"

Dr. Jenkins looks at me, "What are you talking about, Catherine?"

"He raped her." I glare at him, angrily.

"That's not a thing to just accuse someone of!"

"It's not an accusation, it's the truth!"

"How do you know?"

"Bethany told me." Tears fall onto the ground.

"Why didn't you report it?"

"Like you would've done anything." I scoff. "The worst you would do is slap him on the fucking wrists! You don't want a bad image for this place."

He sighs, "That's not true."

"You're a fucking liar. If my unapproved ECT got out-"

I'm cut off as he grabs my arm roughly, "Enough!"

Everyone goes silent as he looks me in the eyes, "Go to your room. We will have a small meeting in the cafeteria later tonight."

I stand there helplessly, as he walks away, ordering them what to do. The guards eyes meet mine, and a shiver runs up my spine at his cold stare.

Soon after, a hand is placed on my lower back. I turn around to see Elaine.

"I'm sorry about your friend."

"I could've stopped it." She wasn't the same as she usually was, she gave me something of hers, and she purposely bumped into the desk. I didn't notice at first, but now I do.

"No one could've guessed."

An anchor was attached to her ankle, pulling her deeper and deeper into the ocean. And I did nothing but watch her.
