Wedding days were supposed to be filled with happiness, laughter, smiles, and most of all love. It was a time for family to get together and celebrate the joining of two people madly in love. The gender between the couple shouldn't matter, what did matter, however, was the undying love they had for one another.

Then, why in the world didn't she feel what she was supposed to feel on that special day? She was getting married; she was with her family celebrating a time of happiness - except it wasn't.

Savannah wasn't getting married to the man of her dreams, she wasn't happy and she most certainly wasn't in love with Ray.

There was nothing wrong with him. He was a sweet, caring man, who loved her as a female friend. Not as his life-long companion, the one who would wake up next to him and share laughter over their experiences in life.

No, Ray loved his maid and his maid loved him. They were perfect for each other and they balanced each other's personalities perfectly. But in the world they lived in, Ray and Jane weren't allowed to be together.

He was the rich son with controlling parents and Jane was the poor girl working her ass off to manage to live decently. Therefore, Savannah and Ray were "more" compatible. She was the rich daughter with controlling, manipulative parents and that meant that she had to marry him.

She breathed in deeply, glancing at her reflection on the mirror and grimaced. She wasn't the same girl that everyone remembered. She wasn't the bubbly, positive girl that wanted to save the world.

Not ever since her graduation from high school.

Savannah had spent four years with who she thought was the love of her life, but he turned out to be a fluke. A lie. The devil's spawn. The man, who unfortunately, she still thought about and wondered where he ended up.

All she knew about him was that he left Thorne Falls and never came back. He never came back for her or wrote her letters or gave her an explanation as to why the hell he left her behind.

The bride clenched her jaw, tightening her hold on the pink stargazer lilies and forced herself to not cry. She sighed, not wanting to look at the dress she didn't want or the flowers she didn't want or the place she didn't want to be in.

If she had at least gotten a voice in her own wedding, she would've been a little more open to tying herself to a man she didn't love. Becca, the wedding planner, and her mother were the ones in charge of everything. They only needed Savannah present for the actual wedding and the dress fitting.

She made a comment about wanting one red rose in the bouquet, but her mother waved her away and said that pink stargazing lilies represented wealth and that was the base of Ray's and Savannah's marriage.

She forced her feet to move towards the windows, the tight fabric of the mermaid dress preventing her legs from moving comfortably and she felt her heart clenching at the scene unfolding before her.

Ray was holding a trembling Jane in his arms. She was crying, her make-up was smeared down her face, making her look like a raccoon, yet he wiped her tears away and pressed a soft kiss to her lips.

He murmured comforting words that only Jane could hear, but she shook her head and responded with more tears.

The broken look on her face broke the little that was left of Savannah's heart and she felt tears welling in her eyes. How could she stand by and watch true love be ripped away from them when she knew exactly how horrible that felt?!
