Celia looked as if she were having a cardiac arrest. Her eyes were almost bulging out of her skull and her skin turned a dark, plumy colour. She stood up, breathing in and out quickly and deeply and raised a shaking finger up to her temples. "N-no? What do you mean no, Savannah?!"
She shrugged, smiling at Ray, who returned the smile with watery brown eyes. "Take care of her, Ray. Don't ever let something like this prevent you from being with the one you love."
"He loves you," her mother bellowed, waving her face rapidly, almost burning a hole through Savannah's forehead at how intense her glare was.
"No, mother," Savannah shook her head and released Ray's fingers, "he doesn't love me. He loves another woman and I am not taking that from them." She picked up her skirts, gracefully descending from the reddish-brown carpeted stairs of the altar and handed Jane the bouquet. "Take care of each other."
She nodded her head quickly, a moment a way from bursting into tears and whispered, "T-thank you, thank you so much, Savannah."
"There's no need," She squeezed her hand gently and began walking down the aisle again.
"Savannah!" Celia hissed, unable to move from the pews by how embarrassed she felt. Murmurs began to fill the stunned church as Savannah pushed the doors open and complains about not going to an actual wedding were made. Others commented on how that was the most drama that ever happened in Thorne Falls. "Savannah Nicole!"
However, the bride-that-never-was didn't look back. She continued walking until she was out of the church and followed the row of cars that were parked alongside the curb. She walked towards her white Lexus, struggling to stay balanced due to her high heels and the tightness of the fabric.
As she reached her car, she could hear her mother's hysterical sobs and she hesitated for a millisecond. She wasn't going to ruin her life for an infatuation over material things her mother yearned for. Savannah sighed as her dress ripped along her thigh, but it at least allowed her to move a little bit freely.
She turned her car on, breathing in deeply and pulled out of the church's parking lot. A crowd gathered around the doors, all watching as she sped down the road and she gave a surprised giggle at her mother's face.
Savannah should've felt guilty or even worried that her mother was so angry, but she felt neither. She was happy that she wasn't going to marry Ray. She was just going to figure things out in her own way. She wouldn't allow her family to guilt her into a marriage that would fail in the long run.
However, a part of her felt nostalgic. She hadn't thought about him in years. She had forced him out of her mind because he had forced her out of his life. But there he was again. In her mind, in her heart – the only place he didn't leave.
A tear ran down her cheek and she pursed her lips, wiping it away and stopped for a red light. They had been so good together. They made each other better, want to do better. He made her feel things that she never thought she would feel.
Yeah, she was 14 when they started "dating," but they had been strong for four years. They fought, like every couple, but it was occasional and over serious issues. She couldn't see herself with anyone but him. Yet, he hadn't felt the same.
