Matthew's POV
My new home. Let me tell you something, New York, is NOTHING like Maywood. From the moment we had arrived, anyone could see the big change.
Living in a big city had its advantages. Lots of people to talk to and meet, many places to go, about any different culture that you wanted to see, so many things to join in on.
Don't get me wrong, although it was great, it also had disadvantages. From the crowded subway to the noisy people, NYC had its own little way of life.
My parents didn't just drop everything to move to some small town all the way in Texas. They had reasons. My great grandmother on my mother's side had just passed away, and she supposedly lived down here.
She left everything in my mom's name and it was her job to sort through it all and split it between family if she wanted. My mother being the Saint she is, agreed to it.
Mom also wanted to open up her own bakery for a long while now and this was her perfect opportunity to do just that. My great grandma owned a small shop in town and with the right work, it could easily become the bakery my mom so desperately wanted.
My dad on the other hand, wasn't too keen on moving. He was a business man and living in New York made it all the easier for him. He still had his job, but he was going to have to travel a lot more if he wanted to keep it.
He could do all the work for his company online, but his boss had made arrangements for different conferences in California so he would have had to had traveled there anyway. The move just made it difficult to keep up with it all.
I had no say in any of this though, because even when I tried to throw in a little comment my dad would stop me by saying, "Whether it a good or bad comment, I don't want to hear it. The decision is final, and that's that."
It in all honesty, completely and absolutely frustrated me to no end.
My little sister Jane had a fit when she heard of the move. She whined and cried about how she would miss her friends and how it wasn't fair at all.
And after all of the packing I had to do without being able to throw my feelings in about the move, I couldn't help to agree with her.
My mother just glared at me for taking her side and sent her up to her room to start packing.
My best friend Noah had insisted on throwing me a going away party. "You'll miss out on everything and you might not even get wifi down there!" He exclaimed when I had first told him.
Our small friend group consisted of Noah and his cool girlfriend Ashley, Mason- the nerdy one of us all, Zander- the player in the group, Natalie- the considerate one, Sadie- the daredevil, and me.
They were all always there for me and it was hard to know that I wasn't going to be able to go and hang out with them whenever I wanted.
I wasn't sure on having a going away party, but Noah was hard to say 'no' to and knew all my weak spots, so I agreed.
It turned out to be a great time just like he had promised. It had a great turnout and we were partying til' dawn. I had a huge hangover the next morning, but managed to wake myself up.
"It sucks and I no longer like your parents unless mom bakes me cookies.", he stated. I simply looked over at my dork of a friend.
He had been calling my mom, mom since I could remember. We had know each other since diapers since our dad's were college buddies and business partners.
