"How you doing?"

Brooklyn came in my room and sat down on the edge of my bed, placing a hand on my thigh. He'd stopped by earlier, but I wasn't in the mood. I was surprised he came back because I didn't expect him to. I wasn't the most appealing thing to look at, at the moment. Puffy eyes, a tear soaked pillow, sweatpants, and messy hair weren't the things that guys wished to see.

"My love, what's going on inside that pretty little head of yours?"

I giggled at him and then sat up straight to face him.

"Better."
"Don't lie to me."
"I'm not, it's getting better," I sniffled.
"Well, that's good to hear."

He smiled at me and I returned one. We sat in silence and just stared back at each other for some time until Brooklyn suggested an idea.

"Listen, if you're up for it, we could go out to a party?"
"A party?" I questioned.
"Yeah, and don't worry it won't just be us, Liam's going to be there too."
"Who's party is it?"
"It'll be at some rich twelfth grader's house."
"You got invited?"
"Nah- well I mean yeah, I guess. They wouldn't turn me down, who wouldn't want Brooklyn Beckham at their house."
"Shut up."
"No, but Liam got an invite, so if we show up with him, it should all be fine."
"Does this person go to our school?"
"No."
"Then how did he get invited?" I tilted my head.
"Football connections."
"Ok, but then what am I going to tell my mom?"
"Say it's a party, tell her Liam and I will be there. No trouble."
"Fine, I'll ask."

I got up out of bed and cleaned my face with a warm wash cloth before going downstairs. Brooklyn followed not to far behind me, texting Liam I presumed. My grandma took notice of me first.

"Brooklyn found you?"
"Yeah," I laughed, pulling a glass out of the cabinet.
"How are you, sweetheart."
"Alright..."

Brooklyn came up from behind me and took the glass from my hand. He went to pour my glass of milk for me while I brought up the party with my mom.

"Izzy! Finally feeling good?"
"I guess. Could I go to a party tonight?"
"A party?" Her smile quickly formed into a frown.
"Yeah..." I looked down, not knowing how to keep the conversation going. Thoughts of my father filled my head again and got me down.
"Don't worry, I'll be with her and same with Liam."
"I suppose..." She answered Brooklyn.
"It's New Year's Eve after all," I added.
"What time will you be back and where is it?"
"I don't know."
Brooklyn saved me, "It's in a richer neighbourhood, somewhat near mine. Oh, and probably sometime in the morning since we'll be counting down to midnight."
"Who's party is it and will the parents be home?"
"Close friend of Liam's," Brooklyn lied, "and yeah, they both will be," yet another lie to escape his lips.
"Ok... I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to let you go."

My mom finally gave up on the interrogation. She was still very protective of me, also because I didn't really ask to go out all that much. Back home, I had my best friend, Sydney, and a few guy friends that would get together occasionally. They were normally at one house and just us together to watch a movie or hang out, nothing too crazy.

"Brooklyn, your parents are fine with this?"
"I'm just going to phone them right now."
"Ok."
"Actually, I'll just wait until I go over there."

She nodded. I took Brooklyn back up to my room to try and select an outfit. I pulled out a few things that interested me and laid them out onto my unmade bed. I asked for his opinion.

"White top and jeans."
"Ok."
"Oh, and bring something, we're going swimming."

Since it was already late in the afternoon, it didn't take long for the day to pass. I got changed and did my hair and makeup. After that, the two of us got a drive over to Brooklyn's place where he got himself dressed up a bit nicer.
