Oh no! Ravens heart dropped to her stomach. With wide yellow eyes she glanced around the tree, there was mostly grass around it... Her paw tracks lead straight to the tree. Even the stupidest wolf would know how to cover up their tracks. The humans would be here any second! She looked behind her, great I have to run! She spotted a bush, nope, she saw some branches in a tree, too high, she saw a hole far up in the tree, about the size of a small wolf to squeeze into, she ran out of the tree making sure she did not step on snow, and got to the tree, swiftly jumped up and got into the hole. It was more roomy then she thought, although it was a big tree. Raven heard people come back and look under the tree she was once in. Nope not there silly humans Raven watched them from her tree nook. She fell back when one human scanned the branches.
"What if she's in that hole?" He said pointing to the nook that Raven was in.
"She can't be up there, wolves don't climb" one protested, it was West.
She peeked out of the nook again. Watching the humans walk away. This would make a nice home Raven thought as she looked out. I could get some moss... Or steal a little bit of blankets. She hopped out of the tree and got some moss, unfortunately it was wet because of the melting snow. Darn. Raven knew it would become mouldy from the last time she tried to build a nest. At Wests house I saw some moss on the roof there. Since it's closer to the sun it may be dryer. Raven thought as she climbed the tree, one paw after another she reached up and used her claws to hold on to the tree. She got to a reasonable height and started slowly walking and jumping from branch to branch, multiple times almost falling. She met a squirrel and watched as it scattered up the tree and chattered at her. Her tiny size was a good thing, since she could easily jump and hold onto branches, she is very light so she can stand on a branch and it not break. As she was jumping Raven imagined what it would be like when she gets bigger and does not fit though the tree nook anymore. It's a long time from now... It may just be sap around the entrance that makes it small. Raven hoped, although it was very unlikely. She soon reached Wests house, she had gotten used to jumping from branch to branch. She landed on a roof of moss. Her paws tested the moss, warmth! The moss was warm from the steam coming out of the house chimney. It infant was very warm... Odd. I'm going to need some way to carry this back... Hmmm Raven turned back into her human form and imagined a big back pack on her, she took the back pack off and opened the zipper. She then turned back into her wolf form and started clawing moss off of the roof, it was very easy and she saw shingles on the house. What if they hear my claws? Raven was carful not to hit her claws on the roof, not to make that much noise too. She gathered a jeep of moss and stuffed it into her backpack with her mouth. She stuffed as much as she could and then put the back pack on her back, it was big and did not feel very good in her wolf form. She had to do this. Maybe running on the ground would be easier, since I won't fall she thought. She opened her mouth and tested the air, no human sent. She then leaped off of the roof and bolted to where the nook in the tree was, far from here. She was carful not to step in the snow patches, although she did step in some by accident. She got to the trunk of the tree and held onto a strap of the back pack I her jaws tightly as she climbed up the tree, it was amazingly light, moss is light. She reached the nook in the tree and dumped the moss in it. She started shaping a nest for her, one she could sleep in without getting cold, she stacked moss on the bottom of the nest until it was comfy enough for her, she then stacked up the sides so that it looked like a moss bowl kind of thing. Oh I know! I could stack sticks around the outside! It would keep the warmth in, she gathered some sticks from outside of the nook, she tried three times then gave up. I don't know how birds do this! She swore those things where magical. What else could I do to keep the warmth in here? Maybe put some rocks around the out side of the nest... That's too heavy to carry up here. Raven soon was happy with her little moss nest, she needed to get a blanket from some where to line the inside of the nest and one to cover her. Raven looked around the nook in the tree, it was big, the roof was far from close to her. A big wolf could come in here and still think it's big. Raven looked at the entrance, I need to fix that. She looked at it, thin bark covered half the the hole that would be there, she did not break it off yet, when I'm bigger. She decided to get some bark that was laying on the ground, probably a bear or a moose scraped it off, and brought it to the nook in the tree, side ways it fit through, then she leaned it against the opening, it fit perfectly, that will keep in the warm air a little bit. She decided, then looked around her den, I will put some moss over there for a food pile... And over there for extra moss or supplies I will collect. Raven would stay in her wolf self for longer now that she did not need to be a human. She took a trip back to the house and got more dry moss and then came back to the nook. She used her paws to make a food pile, well a empty one, soon to be filled with food, then she piled the rest of the moss and set her back pack down. Raven sat back to look at what she had accomplished...
