Six months had passed since she came back from Narnia. But Susan was unable to move on from Caspian. She stood under a tree wishing she could find a door to go back to Caspian in Narnia.
But she knew that she could not go back again. She knew she had to let go of her childish fantasy and start living in her reality. Maybe Caspian had long moved on and found a Queen for all she knew. While she had experienced a lifetime in Narnia, she was still very young on Earth. She still had a lot of time to find love. But she didn’t want to find anyone else. She only wanted Caspian.
She was so lost in her musings that she did not notice when Lucy arrived. Lucy had to call her several times before she could snap out of her thinking. It was at this moment that Lucy realized that maybe her sister was affected by her separation from Caspian much more than she let on.
Lucy didn’t know how to console her sister. She wished she could do something to help her move on. She just hugged her sister and hoped that her presence was helpful to her sister in someway. Little did she know how grateful Susan was to Lucy. Talking to her was her only distraction from thinking about Caspian.
Back in Narnia, Caspian finds the lamp post his friend mentioned. On his way to the lamppost he kept thinking about different things.
He wondered if Susan would still remember him as their time together was brief. To him, that brief moment was enough to know that she was the one. But he didn’t know how she felt. Perhaps she might have moved on. That very thought pained Caspian.
Maybe he should have followed her when she disappeared into the tree. Maybe he should have asked her to stay when she kissed him. Maybe he should have confessed his feelings and begged for a chance to be together. A lot of maybes, but the time for it has long past. He knew he had to find a way to win her heart even if she was no longer interested in him. Because he could no longer imagine a life without her.
Now that he found the lamp post near which the four siblings emerged, he had to find the gateway to Susan’s world. It was rumored that the four siblings found Narnia through a wardrobe. He hoped he could stumble upon it. He knew this was a desperate act but wished that it would be fruitful.
