"And did what?" she asks.

"I was just about to tell you, ma. We went back to the apartment and watched all three Toy Story movies." she sighs in relief and I shake my head in embarrassment.

"Let's just go, I have to work late tonight as it is." She takes my arm and we head out.

Chapter 10-

My mother took me to the local yet well-known ice cream parlor, letting me get whatever I wanted and even paid for me.

"What's the ocasion, mom? Something must be going on." I tell her as we pick a seat outside in the sun and I pull my aviators off and placed them over my eyes.

"I guess I'll just spill. You arent the only one that met someone since the last time we talked." she confesses and I almost drop my bowl of ice cream.

"Boy or girl?" is my first question.

My mother was bisexual; she told me the day I eighteen when she brought over her 'girlfriend,' even though she had only been a family friend since the earliest I could remember.

"A boy." Alice had passed away from cancer a few years ago and my mother had been alone ever since.

"How old and what's his name?" My next question was double since the news sank in.

"He's a little older than me-about fifty-four. His name is Nathaniel West, the CEO of a smaller publishing company. You introduced us a few months ago when you brought me along as your guest to the welcoming gala Summit threw for you." my mind trailed back and I vaguely remembered an older gentleman I had be introduced to and then introduced my mother to.

"He was such a gentleman." I reply as I come back to the present and start back on my now-melting ice cream.

"And still is. We've been seeing each other for a couple weeks now but he plans on making it exclusive at his next publishing party, which is in about two weeks and you happen to be invited to. Kaleb is also invited, but he for other, business reasons. If I am not mistaken, he should be asking you within the week." I nod and we sit for a couple of minutes in quiet as we eat and people watch.

"How's dad?" the two were divorced, had been for about seven years now, but they were still good friends and called each other regularly to catch up and dish on me to see if one knew something the other did not.

"He's in Italy right now, Florence actually. He's doing a small tour of shows and he plans on being back within the next couple months." His artistry was one of the best things to happen to him since the split and it was something that I pushed him to do regularly.

"What about Kaleb? What is he up to today?" She asks me and I grin.

"He's working but we're meeting later for dinner and probably something else. I'm not exactly sure what he has planned but I'm sure it'll be quite the adventure." I sigh happily, thinking of the big bulk of man who was actually the kindest person one could ever meet.

"How does he feel about your long hours and busy schedule?" she digs a little deeper and I shrug.

"He doesnt even know the half of it yet. Im sure he'll be accepting of it, though. We will not work if he isnt." My mood turns a little dark, thinking of that very real possibility.

"You know how to pick them, dear; I am fairly sure that he will learn to live with it." mom pats my hand assuringly and i nod, shaking my head and finshing my dessert.

Mom took me back to the trailer with the promise of a shopping trip on the coming weekend with the excuse that my wardrobe was lacking.
