"So you guys are getting pretty serious now?" Lydia asks.
I shrug," I guess. I mean we almost kissed but for some reason it was like we were stalling ya know?"
Lydia rolls her eyes," not really. But still. I don't you think this is getting a little out of hand?"
I stare at Lydia. She has an intense look on her face. It's one she doesn't get often, only when she's thinking. And like I said, she doesn't get the look often.
"What do you mean?" I ask warily. Does Lydia suddenly think that this thing I was with Julian is a bad idea?
"It's just that," she sighs," don't you think you're being selfish?"
"Selfish?" I parrot.
"Yeah. I mean you know how much Chris hates him. It would just make him feel like crap if you guys got together don't you think?"
A burst of anger pushes the next words out of my mouth," well it's not like I'm going to give up something I want Jair for my brother. He can get over it. I mean he wants you so what's the difference?" I quickly slap a hand over my mouth. Lydia looks at me with wide eyes. So maybe I wasn't supposed to say that.
"He likes me?" She gasps.
"Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaattttt," I drawl out, shaking my head," nooooooooooooooo."
Lydia smirks," I knew it."
I roll my eyes. Everybody knew Chris liked Lydia. Honestly, I don't know how I feel. But in the same breath, I want to be with Julian and I highly doubt Chris will be ok with that. It would be hypocritical for me to not approve of Lydia and Chris.
"Look I don't want to talk about this," I sigh. Lydia shakes her head.
"Fine. Back to Julian then," Lydia states.
I groan loudly," come on. Isn't there anything else we can talk about?"
Lydia crosses are arms stubbornly, obviously she wasn't going to let the subject go," I don't think he's good for you, Adeline."
I sigh," you did last week."
Lydia stands and starts rummaging through her closet," yeah but that was before you almost kissed him. Here put this on."
She throws me a shirt, not looking back. It lands on my face. Peeling it off, I shake my head.
"No I am not wearing this," I announce, staring at the small piece of fabric.
"Why, don't want to look good for Julian?" She says his name like he's slime on her hand.
"No," I say slowly," I don't want to look like a slut."
The shirt is sheer, small, and flimsy. It looks as though it could fall apart at any second. I'd rather just go to the party Cory is throwing in what I'm wearing instead of looking like a hooker on her way to work. No offense to Lydia, but she doesn't exactly dress modestly.
"Fine. Go in that whatever," Lydia turns to me," what do you even see in him?"
She's never going to let up. I shrug," I don't know I just think that Chris is wrong about him."
"So what? Are you doing this to get back at your brother?" Judgement seeps into her voice. I fall backwards on her bed.
"Not everything is about Chris!" I exclaim," maybe I actually want to do something for me. Maybe I actually like him."
"Whatever, we're going to be late to the party lets go."
------------Lydia and I parted ways one we got to Cory's. She wants with the rest of her friends while I walked about, lonely. I've never had many friends other than Lydia. Eventually, a cup with an unknown substance gets shoved into my hand. I stare at the liquid warily, finding the brown color a bit suspicious. Most likely, it was from Cory's parents's beer cellar but there was no way I was taking that chance. Plus, I'm underage.
I spot Chris pushing his way through the crowd towards me and smile at him.
"Hey where's Lydia. She came right?"
I shrug,"she's around here somewhere."
"Why isn't she with you?" He asks. Frankly, I'm not sure. For some reason she just got angry with me. I don't understand why.
I shrug in response.
"We're playing a game of truth or dare upstairs if you wanna play," Chris says," I'll go find Lydia and meet you up there."
I sigh. What the hell, I could use some fun. So upstairs I go, not really sure what room to go to. Finally, I hear laughing from Cory's room and follow the noises. The people I find there surprise me.
Of course there is Cory, and a few others from the football team, but also there is Julian, Andy, Cole, and that blonde chick who went on a date with Julian a few weeks ago. Ashley was it? Thankfully Julian's too busy on his phone to see me. I'm about to turn around to leave when I hear a gasp.
"Yay!" A shrill voice squeals," another girl!"
It was Ashley.
I force out a laugh," yeah that's me. Another girl." Awkward. I am so awkward.
Julian's head snaps up at the sound of my voice," oh hey Adeline. "
"What Adeline's playing?" Andy squeals happily," sit next to me!"
This time my laugh is real. I sit next to Andy and he instantly starts chattering in my ear.
Chris walks into the room, glaring at Julian. Lydia follows, glaring at me. Oh how I'd love to know what I did.
"Ok," Cory grins," who wants to start?"
