"So now he only has less than a month?" Chris clarifies.

A few days ago Julian told me he has to leave for school the day after Christmas. Chris noticed how upset I was and he asked what happened.

"Yup," I confirm," all thanks to his dad and some David guy."

Chris shakes his head, sighing," I always knew he would break your heart but I didn't think it'd be like this."

I furrow my eyebrows, not understanding what he's saying," what do you mean?"

"Long distance relationships barely work, Addie," Chris explains," and even if they do, it still sucks monkey balls. You're never around them and you miss them more than anything. I don't want you to have to feel like that."

I think over his words before responding. He has a point. You miss someone you can't be near more than you enjoy them. Though it's all worth it when you see them again.

"That won't happen with us," I wave him off with a dismissive hand.

Chris purses his lips but doesn't push the subject. He knows better.

"So what are you doing for Thanksgiving?" He asks," it's in a few days."

Crap. I forgot about Thanksgiving. I've never had a boyfriend around the holidays before. I shrug, deciding to deal with it later. Chris gets it easy since Lydia is always at our Thanksgiving dinner.

"I'll figure it out eventually," I sigh. Chris chuckles at me and fist bumps someone who passes him.

Finally we stop at our lockers to grab out binders.

"Have fun at Anatomy," Chris teases, knowing my hate for the class. I stick my tongue out at him and close my locker.

One more class and then my first basketball practice of the season starts.

"Hello ladies," coach Mindy says, tucking a basketball under her arm," and welcome to your personal hell."

I silently chuckle at the shocked looks on the freshman's faces. Mindy is a jokester and is never taken seriously. Of course the newbies don't know this, that's why it's so funny.

"This season's going to be kick ass don't you worry," coach smiles," start layups."

She blows her whistle loudly and we all jog to get a ball. Lydia tightens her ponytail and I toss a ball at her face. She catches it with a frown.

"That wasn't very nice," she whines.

"You're not very nice," I laugh.

"Touché. "

We take our places in the back of the line and watch the players ahead of us. Lydia talks in my ear, judging each girl.

"Starter," she mumbles once Cory's little sister shoots,"jv not varsity."

"How can you tell by a layup?" I ask. She shrugs and waits for the girl in front of her to jog towards the basket," keep up if you can."

Lydia and I race half the time in practice. We're like Julian and Chris in only one way. The two of us play the same position and are constantly competing to be the better player. The difference between us and Chris and Julian is the fact that we love each other not hate each other.

"Quick water break!" Mindy commands once we're all huffing and puffing. She calls a few seniors over to her, probably to talk about being captains.

"That'll be us next year," Lydia says with a hopeful tone after she swallows a mouthful of water.

I nod in agreement.

Near the end of practice, the boy's team starts filling the bleachers. They all like to come early to watch our practice. It's aggravating to say the least. Chris gives me a high five as I run past him.

"Faster, Campbell!" Mindy yells. I speed up my run to a sprint and catch up to Lydia. She beats me to the end line by an inch. The rest of the team finishes the gut buster a few moments after us.

"That'll be all for tonight because I don't want the guys staring at your butts for too much longer," coach yells, waving at the boy's basketball team. They wave back.

Lydia and I walk to our bags, passing the team.

"Damn, Baby I'd love to you see that sweaty under me," Nick Poland comments as he walks past me.

"In your dreams," I roll my eyes.

"Damn right you're in my dreams," he smirks. Chris turns away from Lydia to glare at Nick.

"That's enough Poland she's got s boyfriend and she's my sister," he threatens," and she's not a piece of meat. You'll look like a piece of meat if you even think about thinking about her again."

Nick holds up his hands in surrender," I thought you didn't even like her boyfriend. Sorry bro."

Chris gives him another glare and Nick walks away. I sigh.

"I can't handle myself, you know," I tell my brother.

"I know," he says," I hair really hate that kid."

Lydia laughs at us and Chris whispers something in her ear, making her face look even more red.

I groan," don't even tell me what you just said."

"Campbell!" Someone shouts.

Chris and I both turn around but I realize they were talking about my brother. He kisses Lydia quickly and then pinches my cheek before jogging over to Cory and Travis.

"I say we go get some McDonald's what do you say?" Lydia says.

"I say hell yeah."

We laugh, walking out of the gym.
