The bunch make their way out of the lake from the rafts and begin to saunter through the Opal woods, not in any rush to make it home. Karlie and Taylor are holding hands to give each other some warmth in the unforgiving chill of the winter. Cara and Georgia are up ahead, deep into conversation about ways to direct the other vampires back home from the Moors. Este is walking alongside Danielle, who has decided to pad a little slower behind the group. While Este seems concerned for her child carrying sister, Alana seems to be playfully looking around for something. She feels down a few snowy branches of the surrounding pine trees, pricking herself occasionally. But this does not stop her from trying to bury her head through the trees in order to look a tad closer.
"What on earth are you doing?" Karlie asks.
Alana stumbles out from the trees, "I'm looking for a Christmas tree"
"Lanz, wolves don't celebrate Christmas" Este says. It sounds like a conversation that has happened more than once.
"You don't celebrate Christmas?" Taylor asks in a surprised tone.
"Well, we do celebrate Renewal Day. I guess that's the same as New Years. We don't decorate our homes, though. Or sing special songs or make special food-"
"That's the part I'm most sad about" Alana frowns.
"So you don't gather round a fire and drink hot cocoa, or pick out a tree? And you don't give each other presents?" Taylor inquires, truly crestfallen that Christmas festivities were not a part of wolf culture.
"We don't have time for all that" Este dismisses, not phased by Taylor's shock.
"But it looks so fun! I want to do all those things, Taylor" Alana beams.
"Oh, please, Este. Even just a tiny little baby tree?" Taylor pleads.
Este sighs "And what would we have to do then? Throw some dead leaves on it for decoration? We don't exactly know how to do those things, Taylor"
"I can teach you! I've... seen the humans do a lot of things at this time. We can make wreaths out of branches and baubles from acorns and berries"
Alana jumps up and down in excitement "I don't even know what a bauble is and I want one!"
Taylor's heart melts on hearing the innocent words. Christmas back home was very special and important to her family. She turns to Karlie and makes sure she isn't heard
"Do vampires celebrate?"
Karlie shakes her head "Um... Nope. Considering I am a descendant of the Devil", she murmurs.
Taylor throws her arms up in despair, "Well, guess what! Everyone is going to celebrate Christmas, all religion aside. Or even better, a holiday exactly like Christmas. We can make up an entirely new holiday and do all the things you do at Christmas"
"What will we call it?" Georgia smiles, suddenly joining in on the topic.
Taylor ponders on the question, "We'll call it..."
"Swiftmas" Cara teases. "Since you're the one who founded it, I guess.
"Swiftmas!" Karlie giggles, briefly halting in her tracks to chuckle at the pun.
