Mutations Phase 1
Everything in sight was either covered in a thick layer of ash and dust, or just completely blown to bits. I was very careful to avoid the bodies littering the streets, some of these people were my neighbors or friends and I did not want to find out who was another victim of the asteroids blast on impact. I passed an old elementary school that had at least looked intact but with closer inspections I could see the whole roof literally blown off the walls. I wouldn't want to spend anytime near that, but if I was going to try and survive I had to find shelter and fast considering how quickly it was growing dark. The sun looked as if it was splashed all over with red and orange paint as it began to meet the horizon, a world consumed in flames I thought bitterly, how true. Sighing I walked back to the school, the gravel and debris crunching under my Converse clad feet. Maybe I could find some food or supplies in the nurses office and cafeteria.Soon I was pressing on through the blue gates only stopping to look at the sign that hung crookedly over the entrance. Well I bid you a good day all Mustangs, like there are any left. Maybe I'm just going insane. I thought sadly looking away and quickly hurrying toward a dimly lit hallway. " Okay, maybe this way... Whoa.." My echoing footsteps were suddenly silenced as a pained moan reached me from down the hallway I was turning toward, it sounded almost animalistic . I pushed my back against the wall's corner, and peered over my right shoulder that again stank of strong smelling blood. The gaping holes in the roof above cast enough light for me to see the huddled mangled form of a dog, its coat matted down with ash and its muzzle dripping with blood, there was something very off about the way it walked. It paced back and forth limping, and again every few moments it would howl with pain. I almost felt sorry for the poor mutt, its grayish fur bristling with fury, but I almost gagged when I spotted the skin on its flank when it turned. The fur was burned off slightly and under the patches left was where the skin bubbled and morphed as if it were coming alive to take over the mutilated dog. And that's just what it did.
