"Eventually we're going to have to let your parents know your awake and back with the living."
I groaned and rolled back onto my bed. "Can't we just pretend I'm still sleeping? I'm not sure I'm ready to deal with" I motioned at my closed door, "all that."
Kim laughed and shook her head. "Come downstairs. Your parents are going to want to know that your ok."
I groaned again and rolled over. "Ugh, fine." I got out of bed and onto my feet. Surprised when I did fall over, I looked at Kim who was still on the bed. "Well I'm not going down there alone. Are you coming or not?"
"Well, I was thinking that after we tell your parents your ok, we could go to a new club." She said.
"I hate clubs, Kim." I sat back down on my bed.
"Please! As a 'I made it through a coma' party!" She made her eyes big and stuck out her bottom lip in a failed attempt at a puppy dog face.
I sighed. "Ok, fine. But your buying me a drink."
"Well I didn't know you drank! When did this start? I thought we were best friends! And best friends tell each other everything and-"
"Kim!" I cut off. She looked up at me startled. "I meant coke."
"Oh, ok. That makes more sense." She laughed and I rolled my eyes as I got up.
"Ok. Lets go tell my parents I'm alive." I said as I opened the door and walked out.
****
My parents were waiting in the kitchen. Telling everyone was pretty much a blur of 'how are you feeling' and 'do you remember anything'. To tell you everything would be about as hard as trying to count all the hair on your head.
Mostly because I didn't really pay attention to anyone.
What caught my attention was a knock on the door. I walked over and opened the door only to come face to face with Asher.
And he had flowers.
"Hey." Was all he said.
I felt my breath catch in my throat and my body stiffen. If it hadn't been for my mom, I probably would have just stood there staring.
"Come on in!" Said my mother with a wave of her hand.
"May I?" His eyes locked on mine.
It took all I had just to nod.
I stepped aside to let him in and closed the door. When I turned around I looked strait at Kim. Who was already making her way towards the kitchen were everyone was.
Not wanting to get involved, I sat down one the couch and tried to catch the breath I didn't know I had lost.
I heard the floor creak right beside me. I jumped up to find Asher hovering above me. "Mind if I sit?"
"Uh," what was I supposed to say? 'No. You might have caught me and carried me to the nurse and saved me from waking up on the school campus with a concussion, but this seat is taken.'
"Sure." Was all I managed to get out.
"How are you feeling?" I knew his grey eyes were on me. Watching every move I made.
"Better." I couldn't even get out a sentence. Was his presence really this breath-catching? I looked down at the floor to avoid his eyes.
God knows I would probably pass the fuck out if I tried.
I already couldn't breathe. I was shocked when I saw his eyes follow mine to the floor.
"You really scared me."
I snapped my head up. There were bells going off in the back of my head.
"What?" I said in a squeaky voice
"Just collapsing like that. I thought-" he stopped. But he didn't just stop. He choked. Why was this so hard for him to say? I should be the one choking on my words.
I looked up at him. His eyes were still focused on the floor. "Thought what?"
He lifted his head and his eyes met mine. But this time, they weren't just cold and grey. There was something else in them that I couldn't decipher.
"I thought you were dead."
