The next morning I was wide awake as soon as my alarm clock rang, even though it was just 8 am, normally way too early for me. I was actually surprised about myself, because usually someone could work with a jackhammer directly next to my bed and I would just turn around and continue sleeping without further notice. This was the reason I always had two alarms set, in case I didn't hear the first one. It was quite regular that I overslept, just to burst into the classroom last minute. One time I didn't even realize that I was still wearing my pajama pants until it was already too late. As soon as I had arrived at the uni everyone started laughing, and when I looked down to my feet I also saw why: this day of all days I had been wearing the ones with the pink snoopy-imprint ! I was so embarrassed, and it took three whole, painful days until the laughter of my classmates finally died down.
Today, however, I was jolting upwards with the first ringing of my clock and energetically jumped out of bed, full of fresh energy for the day.
I kind of had the feeling that my good mood had to do something with my appointment later in the afternoon...
As I was in the bathroom after breakfast, brushing my teeth and dancing around to some melody I was humming along to in my thoughts, the door behind me went open with a bang.
In came a rather grumpy and still sleepy Vivian, not seeming to be very enthusiastically about the coming day.
"Jeez, why do you have such a good mood at this time of the day?! That's disgusting! Are you ill or something?", my tired roommate asked.
I decided that arguing was no use, when Vivian was in this kind of mood trying to convince a bush to move to the right would be more successful than debating with her.
"Oh, just say you actually decided to show up at university for once? I don't have to mark that in my calendar, do I?", I teased my friend who was now fighting to get out of her pajamas without falling to the floor headlong. She finally managed to get rid of her shorts and was meanwhile fighting with a fresh pair of jeans.
"If I were you, I'd probably try to put them on with the zipper in front. Just an advise, y'know?", I suggested while I was trying to fix my curls with a hair tie.
"Aw, crap! Just because this damn paper is due today. I could've easily been staying in bed still, or maybe drink a coffee...", she drifted off.
I, however, seethingly remember that today we had to hand in our assignment, because of which I couldn't hang out with Patrick yesterday.
With a last glance in the mirror I went out of the bathroom and left Vivian fighting with her pants.
In my room I started the computer, printed out the sheets and packed them in a folder before I grabbed my bag, keys and phone. I shouted a short "til later" towards the bathroom, where my friend was still struggling, and left the flat.
Despite getting out of bed early I was kinda late, so I decided to take my bike today.
I put my earplugs on and the music on 'shuffle', then I was ready to go.
We're goin down down, in an earlier round, and Sugar, we're goin down swinging... the song said, before it changed to some terrible title by Justin Bieber. I almost fell off my bike, because I still had a trauma from when 'Baby' came out. We were on a school trip and my friends decided it was a great idea to lock me in our room, with this song playing on repeat. Let's just say I could never enjoy any of Bieber's music since back then.
Fortunately I arrived at the university at this moment, so I didn't have to endure this pain any longer. Truth was, the phone originally was my brother Josh's, and I just had been too lazy to remove the songs I didn't like. Don't ask me now why a guy in his late twenties listened to Justin Bieber, because I don't know it either. But, I think, for someone who was -in addition to being a Heavy Metal- and Hard Rock-fan- also founding member of the first Taylor Swift fanclub in our hometown, this was not all too surprising.
