Wednesday, June 12th. It was a pretty sunny day and for the first time this year it was actually warm, so I decided to head out and go shopping.

I was going alone, just because I can't stand to be dragged from one shop to another, only to give my opinion on 5 variations of the same dress. Instead I preferred to stroll through all these little record shops and bookstores in the city center on my own, so nobody would disturb me finding yet another musical rarity for my little record collection at home.

From that you could also guess my look. I wasn't much of a fashionista, I mostly wore just some jeans, a plain t-shirt and my old leather jacket that I've found in a second-hand store around the corner of the apartment building I'm living in. My hair was chestnut brown and curly, but I mostly tied it up in a pigtail, and I didn't wear much makeup either.

Today I was wearing black skinny jeans and a lightblue shirt along with my favourite red Converse and a denim jacket as I left this old bookstore with a new novel in my hands. When I looked up, I saw a girl heavily discussing something with her boyfriend, who looked more than uncomfortable and even a bit frightened.

I wasn't usually the type to listen to other peoples' private conversations, but something about this unusual couple made me go closer. The man was small, just a little bit taller than I, and was even clothed in a similar way to me: black pants, a blue vest and a light denim jacket. He also wore a fedora on his blonde hair.

Weird, I thought to myself, who on earth is running around in such a hat nowadays? But I had to admit that it looked really good on him. Actually too bad he already has a girlfriend.

The mans' gaze was kind of desperate, and as I came closer, I realised why. The girl, looking more plastic than Barbie, apparently was not his girlfriend, but hitting on him shamelessly, completely oblivious to the fact that he didn't seem too pleased about it, but was too polite to tell her off.

"Oh honey, certainly you wanna go out with me, I mean, who doesn't want to?!", she purred while throwing her peroxide-blonde hair behind and placing her pink coloured nails on his shoulders.

Wow, these nails could kill somebody, I thought while I was watching the guy trying to get away from her grasp, but with no effort.

Somehow I had sympathy for the poor guy, and as I couldn't watch the scene any longer, I did something which probably surprised myself the most.

Courageous I headed towards the couple, took the mans hand and said to him:"There you are, honey! I've been searching for you for almost half an hour!", not without leaving a kiss on his cheek.

The man looked even more perplexed than he already was as I hugged him and whispered in his ear:"Just play along".

As he saw the blonde watching dumbfoundedly the guy quickly regained his composure and did as I told him.

"Wait, you have a girlfriend?! And then such an ugly thing?", the chick bickered, clearly annoyed that she wasted her time on a taken guy.

I didn't let her words get to me and instead held my hand with my mothers ring, that I have been wearing ever since my parents died in an accident two years ago, on it up and corrected her in a wave of audacity:"Fiancé, actually. Something to complain?", as I felt a hand around my waist.

A last furious look from the blonde followed, and the she finally turned around to leave. As she strutted away, the girl got her heels stuck in the cobblestones, which made me lose it completely. I got a laughing fit of the kind I didn't have since High School, and I felt the person next to me joining in on my laughter. When we both were finally able to get a grip on ourselves again, I felt myself being tackled in a hug. "Thank you so much, you just saved my life! I don't know how to even show you how grateful I am.", I heard him say with a pleasant voice.

"Well, if we have to marry, I'd like to have at least a proper ring!", I managed to say before we both burst out laughing again.
