Chapter 5

"Zackary to Lilly. Zack to Lil!"

I rolled over, eyes still closed and said, "Hmm?"

I heard Mom say, "Breakfast! It'll be cold!"

I sat up. I unplugged my phone and texted Ricky. I was stuck here for the weekend. Thankfully I leave today at noon. Zack stood in my doorway.

"It's 10 we didn't think you'd get up."

I sighed and said, "Well I'm up now."

I went downstairs, Mom said, "You can stay longer if you want."

"Thanks but I can't."

"Why?"

I figured she'd do this, "I have to work."

"I figured, I just thought I'd ask. Will you be here for Christmas?"

I looked up from my plate, "I will be here the day after."

She smiled and said, "That sounds great. You know I really do love having you around. I wish you could be here more often."

I said, "It's peaceful here, I like it. I wish I could get out more but you know how Dad is."

Mom smiled and said, "Your truck is all filled up, ready for your drive back."

"Thank you Mom."

"You're very welcome Lilly."

I got in my truck. It is December 16th, I will be back in 10 Days for Christmas. It's hard to believe. I cranked up the radio. I couldn't wait to get back home. I was going back to Dad's. The first time I'd been there since he lit me on fire. I got back to North Carolina and I was dreading going to Dad's so much. It was 4:00, I knew he'd be back home from the shop when I got there. My phone buzzed on the dash and it cut into my Garth Brooks song.

Bluetooth picked it up, "Hello?"

"What's up baby?"

"I'm about 20 miles out from Dad's. What are you up to Ricky-Tick?"

He chuckled and said, "I just finished signing about 1,000 cars and thought I'd call. I forgot that you wouldn't be back until late."

"Yep."

"I can't believe you have to go back and forth until you're 21. That just seems crazy."

I flipped on my turn signal and changed lanes to exit the freeway, I said, "Dad wanted to make it where I didn't see her or he could talk me out of seeing her and liking her. She's not that bad. She isn't mean like he is and my best friend from high school lives there so it's ok."

"I didn't realize that. How was she?"

"Mom was good, she made me breakfast."

"No your friend baby."

"Oh! Zack? He's a boy. He was good. We rode horses"

Ricky was quiet then he said, "Ohh."

I pulled into my driveway, I said, "Well, I'm home. I will talk to you later."

"Ok, bye. Hey, I will pick you up for breakfast in the morning since it'll be our one month."

"That sounds nice, but you should come over tonight baby"

"I guess that sounds good."

"Bye."

I got out of my truck that was parked in the garage. I grabbed my suitcase out of the back. I shut the door and walked inside. Dad and I have 2 separate garages, so I didn't know he was home.
