Halloween in January
"So what time do you think we should meet up?" Margaret asked starring directly at me. I was sipping on my coffee as Eileen, Margaret, Rigby and myself were arranging plans for tonight.
"How about six? Me and Eileen get off at five. That'll give us a good amount of time for us to get ready." She announced.
Me and rigby exchanged glances then looked at Margaret and shook our heads. "Great so we'll see you guys later." Eileen said with her eyes filled with excitement. She hopped up from her seat and skipped off to work. Margaret went off to clean a table some guy puked on earlier today. Even though she was doing something completely viol, she still looked good doing it. No, not good, perfect.
I sighed and took another sip of my coffee, licking the whip cream that was left from it on my upper lip.
"Dude you need to hit that before it goes out of stock." I turned my head to face Rigby. He was rocking in his chair. One hand on the table to keep his balance and the other hand was holding his coffee.
I furrowed my eyebrows."Hit what?"
"Oh come on don't play coy with me." He grunted out.
"I honestly don't know what you're talking about." I retorted.
He rolled his eyes and pointed in the direction of Margaret. "That! You've been eyeing her since we got here. Look, I'm you're friend and as you're friend I'm trying to tell you what's best." I shook my head as I laid back in my chair. "So having sex with Margaret is the best way to tell her that I love her?"
He laughed as he set his coffee down on the table. "All I'm saying is that you need to do something before you get stuck in the friend zone. It's not a happy place. Believe me." He looked at me for a second, a certain look in his eyes that I couldn't place. The happy, joking aura he had was gone, leaving a serious one in its place.
"Okay, Rigg. I'll take it into consideration, you're actually right for ounce." I said hinting that I really would take his advice. He smiled and punched me in my arm. I winced and rubbed the now sore spot.
"What was that for?!" He looked at me with a cheeky grin on his face his eyes starting to crinkle.
"We totally just had a chick moment, so I thought I would man it up a bit." I rolled my eyes and started to make my way to the door of the café. "Come on, we're going to be late for work. I don't want Benson dropping his balls again." He groaned and stumped his way over to me.
"It's Halloween. Why do we have to go to work?" He whined causing a scene. So I gave him the death glare and he shut right up. He looked over his shoulder at Eileen and sighed, running a hand through his hair.
"What's wrong Bro?"
He grabbed my arm and dragged me outside in the parking lot of the café. "WHAT THE F---" I cut myself off when I looked down at Rigby. He was shaking, not just his hands his whole body. His eyes were filled with fear and by the way he kept his grip on my arm told me that he was on the borderline between anger and sanity.
"Hey Rigg?"
He looked away from me and focused his gaze on the concrete ground, as if it was the most interesting thing in the world. "Bro...what's wrong?" I edged on.
"Itoldeileenthatweshouldseeotherpeopleshedoesntseemtocarethoughandnowimstartingtowonderifsheevencarredaboutthisrelashonship" He took a deep gasp then continued pushing the last words out of his mouth. "At all."
I blinked frantically trying to absorb what he just told me but it wasn't registering.
"What?" I asked in confusion.
He groaned and looked up at me, his eyes meeting my own. "Last night I told Eileen that we should split up, but she still seems happy and it's really starting to pee me off."
"You did all of this because she doesn't seem to care if you two are together or not? I thought you were going to tell me that you're gay or that you have crabs." He glared at me while he released his grip on my arm.
We started walking in silence. Ounce I realized I weren't going to get a response I continued. "Don't worry, she's just hiding her emotions. I'm pretty sure the relationship you guys had meant the world to her, but why'd you end such a good thing between you guys?"
He looked up at me then back down at his feet. "I...honestly don't know I guess I didn't feel anything."
We ventured off from the café now seeing the park a block away. Rigby was oddly quiet, usually he'd be cracking jokes about random people he see on the street or harassing me to ask out Margaret. Witch reminds me about earlier when he said that he was in the friend zone. Who could he be in the friend zone with?
"Hey Rigg, remember earlier when you said that you were in the friend zone? Who exactly were you talking about?" I could see him tense up. He opened his mouth to respond but was interrupted by Pops.
"Hey Mordecai, Rigby!"
I looked up and saw a waving pair of hands that was attached to Pops. He was wearing his famous smile as always. I also saw Gabriel (High five ghost) playing around with Mitch (Muscle man), they were jumping around in the leaves. If Benson saw them I'm pretty sure he'd flip out.
A small figure sprinted from by my side. I didn't realize it was Rigby till I saw his spiky hair dance around in the wind. He looked adorable, just so huggable. No homo.
I jogged over, joining myself in the group that now consisted of Pop's, Gabriel, Mitch, Rigby and I.
"Hey guy's! I got some lollipops for you all." I could hear the pure happiness in Pops's voice. He digged in his jacket pocket to retrieve them. Several seconds past until he finally took his hand out holding all five lollipops as he promised. He handed us each one as we mumbled words like "Thank you."
"You know who else likes lollipops?" Mitch asked, stuffing his lollipop in his underwear. Yes, his underwear.
When he realized he wasn't going to get a response he answered; "MY MOM!"
Gabriel stretched his only arm out to Mitch to high five it, then they both broke out laughing. Pretty soon we all started to laugh until Benson yelled at us to get to work.
