I still couldn't believe John wanted me to write him lyrics. Me... Me!!!!!! I couldn't help but think back to the first time I had heard his name. It was during choir class two years ago, when Mr. K, the band teacher, was teaching us about the key elements of songs. One of these key elements, Mr. K told us, were the song's lyrics. As an assignment, he had everyone in the class write lyrics. I had never written lyrics before; the thought of writing lyrics had never even graced my mind. After the assignment was done and over with though, Mr. K mentioned that John was a composer and I should meet him sometime. Well, I met him.
I have never had anyone ask me for lyrics before; I didn't even know what John wanted lyrics for. but, there I was, whipping out lyrics like there was no tomorrow. I was very excited, because no one had ever asked me to write lyrics before, and I was also super nervous. I have never really shared any of my lyrics with anyone. But, as they say, there is a first time for everything. So I began writing.
They say music is an extension of the soul, and I say lyrics are a reflection of the heart. So there I was, putting a piece of myself into those words. In those lyrics, I put a piece of my heart.
And after I was done writing, I was up all night worrying. I worried John wouldn't like the piece of my heart I poured out to him.
