BANG!

The pounding on the door was getting louder and more repetative.

BANG! BANG!!

The family had little time left. The loving father stared into his wife's tear filled eyes. Her eyes always looked a more vibrant blue when she cried.

In her arms was their daughter, swaddled in a thick blanket, hand crafted by her skilled mother. The baby girl was sound asleep, barely sixteen month old and healthy. Her hair was pitch black, just like her fathers, with blue-gray eyes. The most prominent feature her left arm. The arm was that of a dragons, gray with scales and clawed fingers. The scales sparkled slightly as the morning sun filed through the window and hit her arm.

"I don't want to leave you here! Come with us.." The mother begged, reaching out with her free arm to grab the father.

"No. I have to stay and keep them from you and baby Mina. If you stay, they will take you and our baby if they get the chance." He gently took her out stretched left hand and held it in between his two hands. The mother also had a dragon arm, it being red and her left arm also.

"But they can't get us where we're going!" The mother pleaded, holding their baby, Mina, close to her.

The father shakes his head. "I have to close the portal so they can't follow you."

"Can you just close the portal once your on the other side?"

"No.. I promise I will find both of you but I can't-"

BANG!! BANG!!! CRASH!!

They were out of time. The sound of the door breaking down was deafening to the father. He wrapped his wife and daughter in a hug, and then pushed them backwards through a swirling portal leading to a far away land. An incoherent shout came from the mother as she clutched Mina tightly, who had woken up. The baby began to cry loudly, her face turning red. A single tear escaped the father's eye as he closed the swirling, blue portal before his wife could attempt to return.

Men with loaded, large guns rushed into the room, aiming the guns straight at the father. The only thing that comforted the father was the fact his family was safe. They may be far away but they were unharmed. Then the men began to shoot the father.
