Friends, Slaves, and Nightmares

10: Rescued and Burned

Ace came charging towards Kara and Mina, whining slightly as he looked towards Kara. The small girl looked towards the wolf as it seemed silent words flew between them.

"Axel and David are in trouble. The vampire castle sent guards to take them back as slaves! We have to help them!!" Kara said, a note of fear in her voice as she began to run towards Axel and David. Ace turned on his heels and ran next to Kara.

"What-? How do you know?!" Mina asked quickly and ran after Kara.

"I have telepathy and talked in Ace's head and heard his thoughts. He explained it to me that way. Let me show you." Kara expanded her mind into Mina's and the sound of her voice reverberated inside Mina's mind. 'Like this. I can think in your head and you hear it. I also can hear you.' Kara's lips never moved.

Mina held her head a bit in surprise. "How did you do that?!"

'I have powers and so does Axel. We can do this and control water. You'll learn that a lot of friends of Katey and Kevin aren't normal. We have go stay together in a way, we're not normal..' Kara continued to think into Mina's mind, running towards Axel.

"Ok.." Mina said quietly and ran with Kara.

"I'll stop, alright?" Kara said aloud this time.

David and Axel came into veiw. The guards had taken Axel out of the net and were chaining his hands behind his back. Two other guards held David still as they continued to whip his back. Mina's eyes widened, her first though to protect David. A flame formed in her hand and she launched it out towards the man with the whip. The flame lengthened like a jet of flame. There was a shout of pain as the man caught fire and quickly became ash. These aren't humans, Mina thought. No human would fall apart into ash like that, Mina hadn't made the flame that hot.

A guard raised its sword and ran towards Mina, slashing it across her right arm. Mina yelped in pain, her arm bleeding now. She quickly turned and racked her claws fingers across the guards face, causing him to cry in pain and stumble back.

Mina looked towards David, throwing a fireball at the other guards, dividing the fire so it is directed away from David. The two guards holding David yanked him up and moved behind him, putting his back in the line of fire. He blinked, confused and blind still, then yelled out in pain as the fireball collided into his back.

Mina's eyes went wide. "I-I'm so sorry David!!" She shouted quickly.

David winced and muttered back, "I-It's ok.."

Kara had water floating out in front of her, bending and moving to her will as she used her hands to control it. A powerful jet of water flung all the guards around Axel backwards. She hurried over to her shaking little brother and began to take the net off him. The tiny fearful boy lunged to Kara and hugged onto her. "I-I missed y-you s-sissy.."

Kara nods and hugs Axel. "I'm here now Axel.."

Min thinking a moment she aims her left hnd at the ground, moving and controlling the ground, forcing it to move and launch all the guards she can back and into trees. Some guards hit the branches of trees just write and ended up being impaled by the branch. Mina didn't care but was careful not to hurt Kara, Axel, or David. Once she was done she ran to David and looked him over. His back was burned and bloody with whip marks. He winced quietly in pain.

There was a crack of a whip as it lashed across Mina's cheek. She yelped and held her cheek. "Don't hurt her!" David cried out and tried to move in front of Mina, wincing from his back and not able to move much.

"She can be made a slave or killed for trying to free slaves.. I have every right to treat her as such!" The guard yelled and went to whip Mina again. She moved quickly and caught the whip in her left hand. The whip didn't hurt as it cracked across her scaled hand. Instead it caught fire as Mina formed a fireball in her hand and forced the flames to spread across the whip and onto the guards who yelled in pain.

"W-what happened?.." David said, wincing from lain again. He could only see with sound and it was hard to see the flames.

"I set him on fire.." Mina answered quietly and then helped up David. "Let's get you and Axel back home.."

David nodded and leaned into Mina, wincing from his back. Kara had picked up Axel and was holding him, going over to David and Mina with Ace at her side. They all slowly began to walk towards the herbal store, keeping the pace of David.

"I'm really sorry about your back David.." Mina spoke quietly.

"Don't be, it doesn't matter. They put me in the way.." David argued quickly, wincing as he walked with Mina's help.

They were alright for now. The guards that survived had retreated back to the castle. It was apparent though that they would not give up. More than likely they were going to come back with more vigor and determination. I swear that I am cursed. Nothing good lasts for me. Mina thought to herself sadly and then looked at David. He was lasting. He was something good that had happened to her. But the castle was trying to take the good thing away from her...
