David "Davy" Crockett was an American legend, called "King of the Wild Frontier" for his skill and survival wisdom. He gained many of these skills when he ran away from home and subsisted on his own as a boy. He was a man who spoke what he believed, even when everyone was against him. He died in defense of the Texan Alamo. When he spoke, he was well informed and listened to. We too should speak only what we know, for then we will not be ashamed.

Always check yourself in your path, once you are sure you are correct and are, get in you mind set, then fly to your goal.

Come with me to a fantasy realm to illustrate my point... The dwarfish boy crept forward, confident in his knowledge of his home. He saw a glint in the darkness, his mother's china cupboard, or so he thought, not checking! Quietly, so as not to wake the beast, he raised his sword, unveiled his lamp, and struck with a loud yell. He stared dumb struck at a bedpost, as he realized the glint he saw was the silver drinking goblet in his sisters room. Realizing his overconfidence, and his incorrectness he turned and cowered; seeking refuge from the pillar of flames.

His brother, hearing the dragon's roar, wisely waited several years before strapping a sword to his waist and going into the hills under cover of darkness. Seeing a glint in the darkness, he took his time to verify his location, then, sure of his position, he uncovered his lamp and smote the scaly head in the treasure room of the Iron Hills. His family rushed inside at the sound and thousands of dwarves restored themselves into their old home.

As when soldiers at war need to be careful in their observations, so should we. For if a soldier is careful and correctly marks all the IED's on a field, he will maneuver himself safely. Whereas a careless soldier will die in an explosion he did not mark. When you act, make sure you are well informed and ready, to avoid pitfalls of stupidity.

Always make sure of yourself, for it could make you an object of ridicule if you don't. Galileo, a famous scientist, thought a popular theory was incorrect, but he tried it out several times with different things. Still sure he was right, he changed the world with his discoveries.

As Fran Lebowitz once said, "Think before you speak, read before you think,' Why think before speaking? To guarantee we shall not regret our words. Why read before thinking? To further back ourselves in truth and steep ourselves in knowledge. We should always follow this prudent course of asserting our correctness before speaking or acting.

So now we conclude with one last word, Davy Crockett was a man whose advice was, and is, well worth paying attention to. So always make sure you are right then go ahead.
