The Fox Without a Tail should not have asked the other foxes to give up their tails for three reasons: tails are beneficial, it was selfish of him to ask such sacrifice of them, and there are negative consequences to removing a tail.
The first reason why the Fox Without a Tail should not have asked the other foxes to give up their tails is that tails are beneficial. Tails prevent foxes from mocking each other. Not only that, but tails help with the balance of a fox, it is much harder to stay balanced without a tail. One may even say that a fox that has no tail is not a fox, but a scarred and ugly half-breed of an animal.
The second reason why the Fox Without a Tail should not have asked the other foxes to give up their tails is that it was a very selfish request. It is selfish to ask other people to take the medical risks of amputation for your own insecurities. It is selfish to ask others to perform final, unchangeable, irreversible operation that will scar them for life. And it is selfish to ask such a thing when you are clever enough to figure out a way around your disability.
The third reason that the Fox Without a Tail should not have asked the other foxes to give up their tails is that there are negative consequences to removing a tail. There is the possibility that something could go horribly wrong, and kill many or all of the foxes. Maybe worse, all the foxes would be the same, as tails are what distinguish a fox. And again, amputation is a final decision; there is no going back.
The Fox Without a Tail should not have asked the other foxes to give up their tails because tails are beneficial, it was selfish of him to ask such sacrifice of them, and there are negative consequences to removing a tail.
