I hate driving; I really, really hate driving. I hate people too, never really been a people person, just your average everyday grump. Oh, sorry; I'm Marissa Brown, I'm 19 and in college and I thought I was going to hate everyone here, and all the crippling debt I was going to be in. Turns out I just hate the latter.

So, my day started out like any other college students, driving a long ass road to an expensive ass college that will put my ass in so much debt. I drove eight hours, I got there around twelve which means I woke up at 4am, got ready, double checked everything and finally actually drove away from home. When I actually got there it was a sauna in my car and only hotter outside. Why do schools start in August? I had packed all my things onto a little cart and stared at the hill that was before me. It was massive and I prayed for a quick death. I had only barely made it to the midway point of the hill when I heard rushed footsteps coming in my direction and almost freak out for a second. "Need any help?" The voice called and I turned to face the person it belonged to, but instead I almost shit my pants. I turned and all I saw was stomach, I gazed up and saw a slender, tan, and really tall guy smiling down at me. I mean, I'm short for someone my age but this guy was like a redwood tree surrounded by pine saplings. "Uh, n-no thanks" My reply was shaky and nervous but the guy reached out his hand to me and I almost lost my little trolley of things -which wasn't all of it, which also meant a second trip up that stupid damn hill- and said "Hi, I'm Benny Martin." He smiled and I could hear a slight Hispanic accent, or maybe it was just me. I stared at his hand and after awhile he looked at me, clearly confused on why I hadn't shaken his hand. I nodded my head towards the small cart both my hands were barely keeping upright and he stuttered out a response, "O-oh shit sorry." He pulled his hand back and we continued up the hill, "Are you just like, some weirdo trying to hit on me?" Benny laughed, well he really actually snorted, and shook his head "God, no." I'm a little offended by his response and when he saw this, he explained "I-I'm, uh, not really..." He stuttered a rambled response and it all began to click in my head. "You're gay." I said still looking forward more focused on not slipping and being dragged backwards down the hill. His response told me a lot of people have; hurt him in some way because of his sexuality. "Um... yea" It's barely a whisper but I heard him say it. I laugh a little "Cool; now I can tell you my name without feeling like I'm gonna find you staring at me in the middle of my dorm in the middle of the night." He looked at me like that's not the response he expected, and then he laughed because I am clearly the queen of jokes. "I'm Marissa, Marissa Brown." I smile, because Benny has this comforting feeling about him. We walked together, talking every now and then.

I continued to trudge my way up the hill when I saw the turn to my dorm building. I almost rejoice and break out into a dance, but unfortunately I had a 100 lb something attached to both my hands while I continued the hill until the top. The top of the hill is beautiful. I mean there isn't some amazing skyline or whatever but, it's flat. Flat ground makes me, Marissa, a very happy person. Benny laughed at the expression on my face then headed off in the opposite direction of me, "Well Marissa I'm afraid to say that this is where we must say goodbye. I'm over this way, and you seem to not be." I laughed a little and we say our goodbyes.

I turned down the much smaller sidewalk to my building and struggled to rip my new I.D card I had gotten 2 weeks before then, out of my pocket just to get through the door. A couple people held doors open for me and I was eternally grateful, seriously those people must be Jesus, and Jesus must've really liked me as I took sight of an elevator across the hall. I headed for it but Oh Jesus Christ it was not my day. I stared at the elevator with an Out of Order sign plastered across the doors. "God Damn it!" I stomped my foot and turned to the small building map pinned to the wall a couple feet away. I made an immediate U turn and in the process bumped into a guy and nearly fell on my face, "Shit! Sorry!" I said pulling my hands up into surrender. "Oh are you okay?" Another voice asked, and it clearly didn't belong into the person I had just bumped into. I stared at the tiny girl, who was shorter than I am (maybe like 5'2") with bright purple hair that faded into a dark blue at the tips. Her lips were a bright bubblegum pink and her face read only kindness. The man next to her on the other hand looked rather weary of me. He was a taller than I was but not by much, with a graphic tee that is a little too tight around the shoulders and a blue, pink, and purple beanie that resembled a pride flag I had seen before. (I couldn't remember what pride flag it was at the time) "O-oh yea I'm fine I just... I'm kinda pissed that the elevator is broken and I'm on the fourth floor and..." I couldn't finish my rambled of an excuse because the girl absolutely beamed and bounced up and down. "We're on the fourth floor maybe we could help you out." Unlike I did with Benny, I was absolutely too tired to care and was extremely grate full that I wouldn't have to do this alone, could you imagine? That's a disaster waiting to happen. The girl held out her hand that was attached to an arm all clad in bracelets of all sorts. Gay pride, Pan pride, Trans pride, Ace pride, My Chemical Romance, All Time Low, Oh my god are those the stupid animal shaped rubber bands that everyone had when we were like eight? Supernatural, Doctor-OH MY GOD DOCTOR WHO. I took her hand and gave it a shake "I'm Luna, and this is AJ." I looked at the man called AJ and he gave me a small smile and a quick wave. "AJ you have to carry her things while we figure out what dorm she's in." He sighed and gave a quiet and very sarcastic "okay, princess" and took my little cart of things for me. Luna immediately latched herself onto my arm and we headed towards the stairwell. "What's your name?" She asked absolutely beaming... again. "Uh, Marissa Brown" I said quietly and she stopped walking and I swear she almost combusted. "Oh my god AJ, We found her!" AJ, who was probably zoned out, glanced up and looked just confused as I did.
