Purgatory

I float through space in an emotionless state of mind; Faces and voices surrounding me. They faded over time and new ones appeared. New people I don't know.
Or should I say didn't know.
I'm dead.

I continued to watch the memories that weren't mine until a voice pierced the silence.

"Are you enjoying yourself?" It asked. I watched the memories dissappear and faced the person who spoke.

In front of me floated a handsome man clad in black. His blue eyes stared into mine with an emotion I couldn't read. I nodded my head and opened my mouth to ask who's memories those belonged to, but he cut me off.

"Those memories would have belonged to you."

A lump formed in my throat. It made sense. It was my fault that I'm here. I gazed down at my damaged wrist with anger. If only I hadn't given up.

"Why did you do it?" He asked. I glared up at him and shrugged.
"Don't you already know?"

He sighed and moved closer to me. As he grew closer I could see that he was almost transparent and has a slight glow around him.

"I do know. But I need you to tell me for yourself."

I snarled at him. Who does he think he is? He can't just ask me that!

"No one cares about me anyway- who the fuck would care if I just left?!"

He smiled. Taking my hand, we suddenly appeared in a room. I quickly realized it was my mother's room.
On the floor, lay my mother. Her chest heaved up and down in a panicked motion. In her arms she held my dead body.
Her face twisted in a pained face and she cried out in agony.

"WHY?! I LOVED YOU SO MUCH! WHY?"
She grabbed my wrist and stared at it before dropping on my lap.
Slowly she rose off the ground and walked over to her dresser drawer.
Out from it she grabbed a small pistol.
I quickly flew down to her and tried to scream at her.
"Mom? Put the gun down. I'm right here! I'm okay!"

But she couldn't hear me. I tried to hug her, I desperately grabbed at her but it was fruitless. My hand just went through her.

She loaded the gun and put it up to her temple. She sat beside my body and kissed my dead bodies forehead before muttering "I love you so much sweety, I'm coming."

She pulled the trigger and fell to the ground with a thud.

I screamed.
I screamed so loud that the world around me shook and fell apart.

Once again I was surrounded in space.
The man appeared in front of me and gave me a sad look.

"They did care. She did care. You'll both see each other again, in purgatory."
