You must realize that behind every dark character comes a story. They were good people turned bad by malicious acts against them. Most often, in times of peril, this creature finds themselves trapped in a world they didn't mean to be in. They may find themselves in a world of light when their true calling is darkness, or they can find themselves on the darkest of nights all alone because the light can't reach them. But we are still the same as these creatures, because these creatures are us, only they possess a little more darkness than normal standards call for.

Violetta raced down the streets of the city, barely being able to say sorry to those she's knocked into.

She felt a strong power burn into her soul as she ran. A malfetto. It seemed to take years before she could finally find one. Teren made it his goal to rid surrounding cities from any malfetto he laid his eyes upon.

Violetta's shoes clacked as they hit the cobblestones. She felt the power growing closer then further away from her.

Having searched for weeks, Violetta grunted in frustration whenever the distance grew. The sun blazed down upon her shoulders, her dark hair heating up due to the light rays. "Saints." She cursed.

A pebble fell to the ground near her feet, looking up Violetta instantly stumbled backwards. "Why are you following me?" It was a boy, around Adelina's age. His hair dark and falling in his eyes, a bow and quiver aimed directly at her forehead "One shot and you're dead, now why are you following me?"

Her voice wanted to fail her then but Violetta kept her ground. She weighed what she could tell him. "I'm looking for a malfetto. I've been tracking them since I first felt their presence here last night."

The boy's eyebrows raised then settles back down, he looked skeptical. "You were tracking?"

She nodded.

"Why are you searching for this person?" He made a move to set the bow down but decided to lock his position.

"Because I need all the help I can get. I need to save my sister." The wind blew her hair in her face, yet she was afraid to move it incase he let the arrow fly.

"What do you mean save your sister? And move that hair out of your face." He remained stern as Violetta told him.

"She ended up in Ravka somehow then she went missing after we had a big fight. I know she's there but I don't know her exact location." She sighed.

The boy lowered his head to see her more at eye level. "And you don't have any way of finding her? Not even a name or a place?"

"Not specifically given to me, although I keep seeing this name everywhere."

"What name?" He sounded hesitant as if he didn't want to know the answer but wanted her to say it anyways. So she did.

"Darkling."

His face paled and he turned a sickly green.
"Are you okay!" Violetta called to the boy as he sat on the window sill. His face completely ashen, expressionless. "I take it he's evil, huh? Figures that my dark sister would get caught with an even darker man, if that's even possible."

"Oh Saints, your sister is dark too? Well if you wanted to know the Darkling is one of the most evil, ruthless people you will ever meet, and I have a feeling that if your sister is as dark as you say she is, we are in big trouble."

"My name's Violetta." Her voice sounded small against the whipping wind.

"Welcome to the crew, Violetta. The name's Mal."
