(A..N. Sorry it has been so long since I updated and I need to appologize for that. it has been a while since i could get on here and actually have the drive to finish or even continue a story. Now, though all of that is behind me. I was working on DLD with a very close cousin of mine and she passed away. she was basically my go-to person so in all of the chaos i didnt have that urge to write. Now its been over a year and its time to press on, this story will be finished in one possibly two chapters. I am honestly very sad to see this story go but like everything great, it has to come to an end. This story is dedicated to my own very special Batman. My dad, I dont know where id be without him and everything hes done in my life. :) <3)
Chapter 28
Jake’s P.O.V.
My adrenalin had been sky rocketing all day, but the moment I set foot on that field it went through the roof. I used to feel that this was my field but its not; it never even was. It was hers, it always has been I’m on her field. Ironically, I’m ok with that; Jessy was the player all of us wanted to be, her only downfall? She was a female, because of that no one would give her a second look.
The stands were packed full, almost reminded me of sardines. I’m fairly certain that the whole town has showed up, not that that surprises me it’s the first time our school has been to state with a coach other than Coach Carson let alone a female coach.
“Coach.” I turned around to see Campbell and Castle running up to me in the same game day jerseys that I once wore.
“Yes guys?”
“Is Coach Jessy stepping down tonight?” that wasn’t really a rhetorical question, they knew the answer to it already they just wanted a confirmation nod or head shake.
“She’s here, give her that. This isn’t what she wanted but please bear with us ok, we have a plan but you guys cannot be a part of it. Just play your hearts out tonight. Look in those stands-” I pointed to the arena of packed bleachers. “your scouts are out there. Make this count.”
they didn’t respond, they knew what I was asking them and if that had an ounce of respect for Jessy they would do what I asked. The boys Nodded in understanding and ran back on the field to finish their warm up exercises.
John and Davis were standing by the giant Gatorade water cooler deciding on what looks like the plays for tonight, like always John had the pen in mouth chewing on it. Jessy always had said he did that when he was nervous and John swore to the moon he never got nervous. Either way, tonight would be the night that everyone was on edge.
“So we have the line up on the defense, and offence.” John was talking directly to Davis, they hadn’t noticed I was there.
“Yeah,” Davis nodded his head “What about the special teams?” he questioned.
“I got those, there looking pretty good for tonight.” I joined the conversation. Both men looked at me then grunted in unison, they both knew what was going on and didn’t believe it.
Sarah had always been an attention whore and no one paid attention until recently, only when it threatened their way of life. This team was family and we would do whatever it took to protect that.
The cold September breeze whipped past me just enough to where I caught the smell that almost made me loose control.
“Hey my love.” Jessy walked up behind me and laid her cheek on my back while wrapping her arms around my waist.
She smiled then almost frowned, not that I could see her, but I felt it. When she smiled, I could feel my whole world get brighter and when she was sad my world almost crashed.
