Chapter 6

Dabney’s was the local hot spot; it has been as far as I could remember. I used to come here when I was in school, it was a great past time for blowing off steam, it had pool tables, a game room and a bar. Dad used to be on the pool team and he’d drag us kids here while he was in tournaments. Dad was so well known around town that we didn’t have to pay for anything. I haven’t been here since my junior year, right after I blew out my acl. It was crowded like normal and if I’m not mistaken I thought I saw tall dark and stupid standing in the pool table area. I slid my phone in my jeans pocket and set out to find Dylan.

“Jess!” someone hollered in the crowd. I stopped to look around but couldn’t find the source of the voice so I headed to the bar to order  a drink. One drink couldn’t kill me, as tradition all the coaches met up the night before the game for a drink. Just because my dad wasn’t here didn’t mean the tradition should stop.

“hey! Jess”

I turned around to see Dylan and my brother john walking up to us. Both of them had a drink in their hand, nothing changes.

“Hey boys.”  I said motioning toward their beers.

“We gotta keep up tradition, sissy you know that.” John spoke up before Dylan could answer.

“Yes, I was just thinking the same thing. So hows the night treating ya?” Dylan asked just as john wobbled.

“Your drunk!” it wasn’t a question, it was a statement of fact.

John nodded, then laughed.

“We have a game tomorrow.” I rested my hand on my hip. He was so not getting out of this.

“It’ll be alright sissy, I’ll have time to recover, Alyssa will here in a bit to pick me up.” He answered with a shit eating grin on his face. I looked at Dylan; I haven’t heard that name in a long time, but it sure rang bells in my head.

“Alyssa and John are together, jess they’ve been together almost two years now,” Dylan explained.

“John, come play some pool!” some guy yelled behind me, john took off quicker than I could comprehend.

John and Alyssa had been on and off for years, I knew they loved each other but at the time they weren’t good for each other. Alyssa’s dad hate john for some unknown reason but it was enough to keep the two apart. Evidently her dad approved now, because they wouldn’t be together if he didn’t allow it.

Dylan looked good tonight; he had on low slung ripped blue jeans and a blue polo top on. His hair was styled in the same faux hawk that his brother wore, in his hair though he had blond tips. If I didn’t feel the way I did about Jacob I would so take advantage of him tonight. Of course that would call for liquid courage, and at this point in time I didn’t want to go to the game with a hangover.

“Come on lets go play some pool.” Dylan grabbed my hand and led me through the crowd. I noticed faces that I hadn’t seen in a long time, it was weird seeing everyone grown up.

The pool room was dark with low lights just lighting up the pool tables themselves. Dylan let go of my hand to rack up some balls. Walking around the table I ran right into someone. This someone was about a foot taller then me and well built.

“Hey, coach Carson.”

I looked up into the darkest brown eyes I have ever seen. I was looking at tall dark and stupid. Shit, I stepped back and looked at him again.

“hi, castle. Isn’t a little late for you to be out?”

“Naw, I don’t have a curfew. Besides it’s not like my father’s going to know I’m gone.” He brushed it of like it hadn’t mattered. Dylan and castle looked at each other than shrugged.
