Chapter Twenty-Four

**Rosalie**

Today is my ultrasound. I was dressed in a large hoodie that was very baggy with some sweatpants. Justin grabs his keys and looks at me. He smiles and I smile back. Today, we will see our little baby.

"Excited?" he asks, holding the car door open for me.

"Very," I say, sliding into the car.

Justin walks to the other side and slips into the driver's seat. He turns the engine on and begins to drive to the hospital. I had the window down and the wind was blowing my hair around my face. As we pulled into the hospital, my heart was racing. I was gonna see my baby. Our baby. We walk into the clinic, Justin's fingers laced in mine.

We walk down the hall to the front desk. The secretary looks up at us from the tops of her glasses and gives me a look that tells me she was ashamed of me.

"How may I help you?" she asks, leaning back in her chair.

"Um, I have an appointment for an ultrasound," I say, biting my lip. "My name is Rosalie Swan."

She nods then starts pecking away at the keyboard.

"Ah. Here you are," she says, clicking the mouse. "You are in room 216. The doctor will be with you in a minute."

She points down the hall where the numbers stick out.

"Thank you."

Justin and I start walking towards the room when a woman walks towards the desk from the opposite direction. She had to be almost due her stomach was so huge. She smiles as she walks past, seeming very happy at her new motherhood. I watch as she walks out the clinic with the smile still on her face. She was in her mid-twenties and in great health.

"Rose."

I look at Justin. "Huh?"

He chuckles and points at the door. 216 was on a plaque next to the door, shining bright at us like a star. Justin opens the door for me, allowing me to walk in first. I hop up on the chair, taking a deep breath. Justin takes the seat next to me and smiles at me.

"We get to see our baby," he says, kissing my hand.

"Our baby," I say, marvelling at the sound of us together and our little miracle.

We sit there for a few minutes in humble silence when the door opens. In walks a woman with a white coat and a clipboard. She closes the door behind her and smiles at us politely.

"Good morning, Miss Swan," she says. "My name is Dr. Langton."

I shake her hand and smile back.

"You can call me Rosalie." I look at Justin. "And this is my fiancee, Justin."

"Ah," Dr. Langton says, shaking his hand. "You must be the father, I assume."

He chuckles nervously. "Yeah, that would be me."

She nods and looks down at her clipboard. "Alright. You are almost five months pregnant."

"Yes, ma'am," I say proudly.

"Let's take a look at this baby, shall we?" she says, holding up ultrasound gel.

I unzip my hoodie and hand it to Justin. My round pregnant belly stuck out in front of me a good length for being five months. I lift my shirt to expose my belly, lying backwards on the chair. She squirts the gel onto my stomach. I gasp at the sudden rush of cold in the spot where she had the gel.

"Sorry," she says. "It's a little cold."

"Yeah, just a little," I reply.

She gives a short laugh then starts rubbing it around. She turns the monitor towards me. My heart swells with happiness as I see the little head pop up on screen.

"There's the baby," the doctor says.

I look at Justin and then back at the monitor. She moves the handle around and I could see feet and an arm.

"Do you want to know what gender it is?" she asks.

I nod, tears falling down my face. I brush the tears away as she turns it, showing the profile of the baby again.

"And it's..." She looks closely. "It's a little boy."

Justin smiles and looks at me.

"I told you," he said, kissing my hand.

"Shut up," I say, laughing.

He stands and takes my face in his hands. He kisses me and smiles. He looks at the doctor.

"Can we get pictures?" he asks.

"Of course," Dr. Langton says, smiling. "Just a moment. If you go to the front desk, they will have the pictures there."

She hands me a paper towel and I wipe the ultrasound gel from my belly. I pull my shirt down then zip up my hoodie. I hop down off of the chair, holding onto Justin. He hugs me and I smile.

"Come on," he says, linking our fingers together. "Let's get those pictures."

We walk down to the front desk and the lady from before hands us the pictures. Her scowl was the same as it was 20 minutes ago. I take them and we walk out. I look down at the photo and my eyes burn with tears again.

"Our baby boy," I say, touching the picture.
