THE OUTBREAK

Chapter seventeen

Bri-

I woke up the next day with a smile on my face.
I walked to the vending machine and looked at the shards of glass and healthy snacks on the floor and all I thought was 'man I want something other than crappy healthy fruit bars'  but I knew that it's all we have, I walked over to Josh and kicked him lightly, he shot up immediately, as if he saw a ghost. I looked to my right and sat down there's nothing to do here other than think. I went pretty deep in thought and apparently I zoned out completely, but Josh brought me back to reality and asked me
"What's wrong" and the only thing I said was

"How can our friends and family all be dead, or zombified, or whatever it's called, but somehow we aren't dead. How is that possible?"

"Bri" he said "I am not sure but we will find out somehow"

"How!" I shouted giving him an angry look, he gave me an irritated look and said

"Call me over when you calm down, hothead" and with that he walked away. I threw the rest of the fruit bar onto the floor and ran behind the registration desk and cried for God knows how long, then I thought to myself why am I crying over something that boy said. I got up and went to the punching bag area and just let my anger out on them. And no I am not good at pushing or kicking but I had to do something to let my anger out, then I heard laughing. I saw Josh sitting on a bench laughing and clapping then he said
"Be careful you don't want to break a nail, oh and your supposed to punch a punching bag, not slap it" he started walking towards me.

"I was punching it" I said with less confidence than I was hoping for.

"No you weren't, this is not punching" he started to slap the punching bag, then laughed again. I glared at him. He put his hands up and he said "woah, woah I was just kidding sweetheart"

"Don't call me that!" I snapped back. I turned to walk away, but as soon as my body turned he grabbed my arm and spun me towards him.

"I'm sorry" he said grinning

"Whatever" I mumbled as I pushed myself out of his arms. He grabbed my arm again, but this time he didn't say anything. He grabbed the back of my neck and leaned in for a kiss, and right before my lips touched his, I pushed off and ran into the womens bathroom.
That's when I heard it. The sound of glass shattering into millions of pieces broke the silence. I ran out of the bathroom and saw Josh staring at the other side of the gym, with a terrified look on his face, I looked over and saw it. A mob of zombies with there rotting flesh and nasty torn clothing walking through the broken window. I sprinted to the front door, and ran down the street and didn't stop until I couldn't hear Josh screaming for me to slow down. I sat down on the curb trying to catch my breath, after a couple minutes passed by, I heard footsteps and panting, Josh said

"We gotta hide" , he grabbed my hand and we headed down the road to see if we could find June and Daniel, and a place to stay.  We got up to where the old library is and heard growling and banging. But out of the corner of my eye, I saw movement in the old door store so I decided to check it out, and that's when the door swung open to reveal the most horrifying sight, Janelles, still moving, mutilated body.
Then, she jumped at me..
