Chapter 6

I had my eyes closed as Channing’s bike came to a sudden stop. I opened my eyes and saw that we were in front of the waterfall; me and Chandler’s waterfall. I frowned at the thought. Channing got off while I just sat there, staring at it.

“Channing, why are we here?”

“We’re here to make new memories.”

“This was me and Chandler’s waterfall. Being here just doesn’t feel right.”

He stopped walking abruptly. He came over to me and picked my chin up since I was looking at the ground. His hazel eyes stared deeply into my brown ones.

“Well from now on, it’s going to be our waterfall. Just you and me. What do you say?”

“I’d like that.”

He smiled. He went off behind some trees and came back later in a pair of swim shorts. Oh my gosh, he seriously expects me to change behind a tree.

“You’re crazy if you think that I’m changing behind a tree.”

“Come on, I promise I won’t peek.”

“You swear on your life and if I catch you, I get to beat to beat you with a baseball bat?”

“I, Channing Martinez, swear on my life that I will not watch you get changed and if I do, you get to beat me senseless with a baseball bat.”

“Metal one?”

“Don’t push it.”

I chuckled and headed behind the tree. I checked to make sure that Channing couldn’t see me and quickly changed into my bikini. I knew it would be kind of awkward having Channing see me in a bikini so I darted from behind the tree and jumped off the dock. I resurfaced and Channing was nowhere to be found. I looked around and still no sign of Channing. Suddenly something grabbed my ankle and pulled me under while I screamed. I opened my eyes and right in front of me was Channing, smirking like an idiot. I shoved him and tried to resurface, but he wrapped his arm around me waist and pulled me closer. His lips landed on mine. Now I know why everyone is so obsessed with underwater kissing. We both pulled away and resurfaced. We both came up breathless but not because of the lack of oxygen, if you know what I mean. I looked at Channing with a surprised expression.

“Wow.”

“It’s much better underwater.”

“Oh definitely.”

We both laughed. Soon the laughter died down and we were just floating there, staring at each other. Channing grabbed my waist and hoisted me up on the dock. He got on as well and we both just laid there, staring at the sky.

“Thank you Channing.”

“What for?”

“You taught me to love this place again.”

“That’s good. You know, no matter where you are in the world, the moon is never bigger than your thumb.”

“Wow, random much?”

Channing smiled and grabbed my hand. I looked at our intertwined hands and then at his face. He started leaning forward until our lips were an inch apart. Suddenly he took a deep breath and started to pull back.

“I’m sorry, I don’t know what-“

He didn’t get to finish because I softly put my lips on his. He immediately responded by grabbing my face and pulling me closer. His kisses made me feel high. We both pulled away and as always, he left me breathless.

“Sorry, Channing.”

“Don’t be.”

He pulled me up and grabbed me when I slipped. I blushed, grabbed my clothes, and went behind the tree.

Channing’s Point Of View:

Gosh she drove me crazy. I’ve tried resisting her but now she’s making it so damn hard. She came out from the trees with her wet hair in a high ponytail. I went behind the trees and changed quickly. We grabbed our helmets, hopped on the bike, and went back to her house. We got there by 7:46. We really lost track of time while making out by the lake. We went upstairs and just stood in front of her door awkwardly. She suddenly chuckled and I looked at her strangely.

“This is kind of like the awkward first date moment where the two people don’t know if they should kiss or not.”

I planted my lips firmly on hers. She didn’t have to tell me twice. She put one hand in my hair and the other on my cheek. I wrapped my arms around her and pulled her closer. The kiss became more urgent. For some reason this all felt familiar. Then it hit me.

This was familiar.

“Caleb! Help me into the tree please?”

“Ok, Adri, I’ll try.”

I put my arms on her tiny waist and lifted her up. She grabbed hold of the branch and hoisted herself up with great difficulty. I pulled myself up easily since I towered over her by a good three inches. We climbed higher and I sat next to her on the branch. I put my arm around her waist and pulled her closer to keep her from falling like I always did. She leaned her head on my shoulder and sighed.

“What’s wrong, Adri?”

“I don’t wanna talk about it.”

“Come on, Adri. You know that you can tell me anything.”

“I don’t want you to leave. I love you too much, Caleb.”

“I love you too but, don’t worry, Adri. We still have three months until I leave.”

“Can we try something?”

“Sure. What is it?”

Adri put her soft lips on top of mine. I pushed my lips back a little harder. This caused Adri to lose her balance and fall out of the tree. I grabbed her hand and ended up falling as well. As we fell, I turned us so I landed under her.

“Oh my gosh, Caleb are you alright?!”

“I’m fine.”

She gave me a weak smile and laid her head on my chest. She gave me a hug and squeezed tightly. I’ll admit it hurt but I wasn’t about to complain.

“Caleb?”

“Yeah, Adrianna?”

“You’ll always be my big strong demon, right?”

“Of course. “

“You’ll always protect me?”

“Forever and always, Adri.”

She giggled.

“Yeah, forever and always.”

That was back when I was Caleb Michaels. Not Channing Martinez. That was also back when Adrianna was just Adri, my childhood best friend that I left behind when we were 8 years old.

I pulled away but kept my eyes closed. I don’t know what looking at her would do to me.

“Night, Adrianna.”

“Night, Channing.”

I walked into the guest room and laid on the bed, completely mortified. I had to give Adrianna to the tribe to save Uncle but, could I give up my childhood best friend, Adri?

The one I was still in love with?
