Chapter 4
When I woke up, I was still on the couch swing on my porch. I shot up and looked around for Channing. He was sitting on the chair across from me.
"So sleeping beauty, you decided to wake up huh?"
I blushed at the fact that he called me sleeping beauty.
"Yeah, that was the best nap ever."
He chuckled and got up. He walked down my driveway.
"Where are you going?"
He turned around and smirked at me.
"I was gonna go home, unless you want me to stay?"
I scoffed. He's sweet and then he's a player. It was confusing. I did want him to stay though. I had to be as nonchalant as possible.
"I don't mind you staying, if you want to."
He raised an eyebrow. Damn he looked cute when he did that.
"Ok then, I'll stay."
He walked back over to me and picked me up again.
"What are you doing?"
"Your ankle is sprained and I don't need you limping to the doorway."
He smiled at me. I rolled me eyes but smiled none the less.
"Ok I'm not complaining."
He set me down on the couch and sat beside me.
"Where are your parents?"
I frowned. My parents were divorced. I lived with my mom. And she was always working to get her mind off home. She wasn't here physically or mentally. Her mind was always on work. My brother was sleeping over at his friend’s house this week so I've been alone. It got pretty lonely.
"Not here."
Channing rolled his eyes.
"I know they're not here obviously. Where are they?"
"Moms at work."
"What about your dad?"
"They're divorced. He's probably with his new family."
I said it with venom in my voice but I couldn't help it. I mean I liked his new wife and her kids. They were nice. Plus she wasn't the one who split up my parents. It was some cheap whore who knew he was married (if I find her, I'm killing the bitch). It's just that I still can't see my dad with anyone but my mom.
"Oh. I'm sorry."
"It’s nothing."
That’s what I told everyone when they apologized for the divorce. That it was nothing. When really, it was everything. Mostly all I ever thought about for the past 2 years. I guess I didn't want to be pitied.
"You don't mean that."
"What?"
"That it's nothing. I can see it hurts you to talk about it. You just hold it all in."
I blinked. He saw right through me and my tough act. No one has ever figured me out that quickly before. Even my best friends only knew very little of the pain and resentment I felt. I wasn't gonna let Channing know that he got to me though.
"No it is nothing. They've been separated for 2 years and divorced for 1. I gave up on that a long time ago."
He narrowed his eyes at me.
"You’re lying."
"How would you know?"
He got closer to me.
