Chapter One
For the longest time, Keira had always felt like she was alone in the world, like she had to be the best just to survive. She was always battling against her brother Jakob, trying to get ahead of him in everything as she always felt she had something to prove to everyone. Keira never understood why she felt like this, until one day when her parents finally sat her down and explained that she was adopted. She had no blood relation between any of them, not her mother, not her father and not even her brother.
With the truth in front of her, she knew that she had to fight even harder to be the daughter her parents deserve. Her birth parents clearly didn't want her, but the two that have raised her since she was barely a year old so clearly want her. Jakob wasn't adopted like she was, he their real son by blood and that set her blood to boil. He didn't have to work at all to feel a part of this family, but she did. She had to do her hardest to deserve the title as her parent's daughter.
Keira's parents have told her so many times that they loved her just as much as Jakob and they adopted her because she was dumped at their door step and couldn't bear to part with her when they first saw her. She loved her family with all her heart, no matter that she was adopted or felt she had to work harder, but she also feared them...
A week ago, Keira and her family had moved from their previous small town called Lake-Side Ridge to another small town five hours away called Amble. Keira thought it was a weird name for a town, well, a weird name for any place. Especially considering it meant a relaxed walk. But they had to move here for her father's business or well, job really. Her father worked as a doctor and was highly regarded everywhere he went and was in constant demand in hospitals for him to come and work with them. Because of this, Keira and her family had moved three times, but always to a small town like this.
It was now Monday morning and Keira was not looking forward to going to her new school. Every time Keira and her brother started at a new school, Keira was always left in the shadows while her brother flourished in popularity. That was another reason why Keira felt she had to be better in her grades then Jakob, so she had something to show that she was better than him at something.
"Keira!" yelled a voice she recognised as her mother's from downstairs. "Time to get and get ready for school! Your uniform is in your cupboard!"
That's right, Keira remembered. She has to wear a uniform at this school. She hated wearing school uniform, even if it did save money on constantly buying new cloths for school. Keira didn't have to wear a uniform at her last school, but at the one before that she had to wear one.
Keira pulled herself out of her bed and trudged into bathroom. She pulled off her night cloths and without stopping to look at her body in the mirror she turned on the water to her shower and stepped in. While having a shower, Keira thought of what her new school would be like. Whether the teachers were nice and knew what they were teaching because Keira thought there was no point in going to school if the teachers had no clue as to what they were teaching. She also wondered whether the students were like the ones in her old schools; if they formed groups and had popular kids pick on the students who wanted to learn. From here past experience, she expected it to be exactly like her other schools.
Once her body was fully cleaned and her hair scrubbed free on any dirt from unpacking yesterday, she stepped out of the shower and pulled a towel around her body just before her bathroom door squeaked open.
"Argg!" she screamed in fright. She turned and clutched her towel closer to her body when she saw it was her brother standing at the door. Jakob was a rather handsome boy at the age of eighteen and normally Keira would blush at thinking of her brother being handsome, but it was hard not to agree with others when they say that Jakob is a handsome being. He was tall at 6'5 and had a broad chest and shoulders, thick blonde hair that fell across his face and nearly covered his dark brown eyes. Jakob also managed to get good geans off of our parents and was born with a clear complexion, not even a freckle disturbed his skin. Keira also noticed that he was already in his school uniform. Black leather lace up school shoes, a dark grey pair of pants, a white dress shirt untucked and a dark grey tie tied loosely around his neck with the first couple of buttons undone. "Jakob! Don't come into my bathroom when you know I just got out of the shower! You could've seen me naked!"
"No one wants to see that, now do they?" he mocked me. Keira flushed in anger at his words. He would constantly teased her about the way that she look and she don't know why. Sure she was a little on the large side, but she was nowhere near being fat. She had a large behind that came with large hips and thighs and she was also unfortunate blessed with a 14 DD cup sized chest that gave her serious back pains. Her long, straight black hair that reached to just above her waist that framed her beautifully heart shaped face that had an almost clear complexion and no freckles. Keira was also quite average height being at 5'7 and the only thing that Keira loved about herself was her blue eyes that were so dark that they looked like sapphires.
"Why do you have to be so mean to me?" she hissed at her brother. Keira desperately wished that her brother would leave her room so she could get changed before they were late to school.
"Because it's fun," he shrugged in reply.
Keira groaned at his lack of care for her. "Can you please leave so I can get changed?" Keira hated that she was the only one out of the two of them that seemed to care about school.
"You're no fun in the mornings," he whined. "Normally you join in with the teasing." He ran a hand through his hair and pushed it out of his eyes, only for it to fall back down again. Jakob huffed in annoyance.
Keira didn't reply and eventually Jakob got tired of standing in the doorway of her bathroom and walked out of her room. Finally alone, Keira locked her bedroom door and dropped her towel. She walked over to her cupboard and looked at the uniform she was forced to wear. Same sort of black leather lace up shoes as her brother, a dark grey plaid skirt with black tights, a white dress shirt, a dark grey tie and a dark grey jacket. Keira quickly put on a pair of underwear and matching skin tone bra, a white singlet so that no one could see through her school top and then pulled on her uniform, without the jacket, seeing as how it wasn't going to be too cold today. Keira looked in the mirror and decided that her hair was almost dry anyway so considering she couldn't be bothered to dry it herself, she let the rest of it dry naturally.
Walking out of her room, she grabbed her school bag that contained all of her school books that she needed, seeing as how her brother and herself got their schedules, locker number and a tour of the school a couple of days ago, so they knew what classes they had. She also grabbed her fully charged phone and class schedule list and placed them in her skirt pocket. Keira walked out of her room and down the stairs to the kitchen where she found her mother finishing cooking breakfast and Jakob already sitting at the table eating his own food. Her father wasn't there, so Keira thought he must be at work already.
"Good morning," Keira announced as she walked in and dumped her bag next to her brother's bag in the hallway. She walked over and sat down at the table, sitting opposite her brother.
"Good morning sweetie," cheered her mother. Keira never understood why her mother was so happy in the mornings, filled with smiles and laughs. She must be filled with brightness due to her looks. Keira's mother was short at 5'2 and had a matching small figure with barley any hips and an almost flat chest, but she made up her child like body with her shoulder length blonde hair and bright green eyes that seemed to shine with happiness. "You excited for school?"
"Yeah," Keira mumbled," sure, mother. So happy to be starting school in the middle of a school term."
"Don't talk to mother like that, sis," scolded Jakob, glaring up from his food.
"It's fine Jakob," assured mother. She walked over and placed a plate of eggs and toast in front of Keira and kissed her cheek. "I know that Keira isn't happy about starting school mid-term, but you have to understand that this was the only way to get you guys into school without having you to wait until next year to start."
"That would've been fine with me," mumbled Jakob, going back to his meal and continued to stuff his face. Keira thought it was a miracle that he wasn't fat with the amount he ate every day.
"Some of us actually like school Jakob," sighed Keira, disappointed with his lack of interest in getting an education.
"Whatever," he huffed in her direction. "Let's go then."
Standing up, Jakob grabbed his school bag and walked out the door while swinging his car keys around his finger. Sighing, Keira got up as well after shovelling as much eggs in her mouth as she could, swung her bag onto her shoulder and grabbed a slice of toast before following Jakob out the door and into his black ford falcon car.
