Chapter Three

English was over and Daniel and Keira packed up their books into their school bags. During class they found that they both have Maths next, so they walked out of the room together and Keira followed him to their class. Keira could've walked by herself, but Daniel thought that now they were "such good buddies" and all, that they could walk together. Keira didn't mind, not really. She liked that he was sticking by his comment on being her friend.

Daniel and Keira arrived at their destination and he led her to what Keira assumed to be his usual spot to sit. He sat down next to a boy and by the way that they greeted each other, Keira thought them to be good friends. Keira knew that Daniel wanted her to sit with them, so she dropped down into the seat next to him and waited for Daniel to introduce them. She didn't have to wait long.

"Jared, this is Keira. She's the new student," Daniel gestured to Keira and then back to Jared. "Keira, this is my best mate Jared."

Keira smiled at Jared and was relieved when he smiled back instantly. She was happy that Jared didn't think she was imposing in on them. Daniel was cute, but he failed in comparison to Jared. Keira thought that Jared was the most handsome man in the world, probably even better looking than her brother, so that was saying something. He was just as muscular as Daniel, if not more and he looked like he would easily tower over her in height. Jared had light brown hair, so light that you could almost call it a dirty blonde colour and dark green eyes that really stood out with his pale hair. On anyone else, Keira thought, it would look strange and off putting, but on him it made him all the more appealing.

"Hi Keira," he smiled and held out his hand for her to shake just like Daniel had done. "Daniel making you his new friend, huh?"

"Hi, Jared and yeah, he is," Keira laughed as he teased his friend. "It's ok though, I don't mind."

"See Jared?" Daniel placed his arm around Keira's shoulders and pulled her closer. "She doesn't mind that I'm forcing a friendship between us."

"Don't say it like that Daniel, it just makes it seem really weird and creepy now." Keira pretended to shudder, like that very thought of being friends with Daniel was horrifying.

"Oh Keira," Daniel placed a hand on his heart and faked looking heart broken, "you wound me with your words." Keira just laughed and pushed him off of her, causing him to slam into a laughing Jared.

"You're gonna fit in just fine with our group Keira," commented Jared, who was still laughing while now trying to get Daniel off of him as Daniel was now trying to hug him while he kept going on and on about how bad a friend Keira was and she would've been worried if Daniel wasn't trying not to laugh at his own silliness. Daniel and Jared were a crazy pair, but Keira was glad that Daniel wouldn't let her not be friends with them. Keira needed a little light and some laughs in her life.

School was now over and Keira was happy to know that Jared was in her P.E. and study class and that all three of them were in the same history class at the end of the day. The only class that she had to herself was Biology, but she always had trouble in that class, so she was secretly happy that none of the boys were in there to disrupt her in it.

Keira was waiting outside, leaning against Jakob's car waiting for him to show up so they could go home. Since they had to start mid-term, Keira had a lot of homework to do to catch up to everyone else at school. Keira knew that she would get god grades, so she wasn't too worried, but she still hated being behind in class work, even if it wasn't by choice. She thought over what happened today and it brought a smile to her face.

All during maths, the boys had been joking and laughing all through class, much to the teacher's displeasure and in P.E. Jared and Keira had teamed up against everyone in dodge ball and of course we lost. Daniel and Jared insisted that Keira hang out with them at lunch, and even though Keira wanted to go to the library to catch up in school work, she caved and joined them at their lunch table. A couple of Daniel's and Jared's friends sat with them as well. There was Sam, Paul, Lacey and Helen. Keira found out that Sam, Paul, Daniel and Jared were on the school soccer team, so Keira figure that was why they were so largely built. Keira also found out that Helen was Jared's fourteen year old sister and was dating Sam and Lacey and Daniel used to date before they decided they liked each other as friends better. Keira was kinda glad about that to, because she thought that she might have a little crush on Daniel.

Hearing noises, Keira looked up and saw her brother coming towards her and he wasn't alone. Surrounding him was a bunch of girls giggling and flirting with him and Keira knew that he loved every second of attention he was receiving from those girls. A couple of them went as far as to glare at Keira with jealousy clear in their eyes when they saw her leaning against his car.

"Who's that?" one of the hissed out. That caused more of them to turn in Keira's direction. This was the part of the day that Keira hated the most, when her brother's new playmates didn't know that Jakob had a sister.

"Chill girls, I'm his sister," calmed Keira. They seemed happy with that response and wet back to flirting with her brother. All accept one.

"You two don't look like siblings," the girl pointed out. This was another thing Keira hated when meeting Jakob's girls.

"That's because Keira's adopted," announced Jakob. That caused the girls to glare at Keira again. She knew that they thought that because Jakob and Keira weren't blood related, that they would hook up or something. The mere thought of doing anything like that with Jakob almost caused Keira to lose her lunch.

"Come on Jakob," hassled Keira. "We have to get home before father does."

"Right, excuse me ladies," he smirked at the girls surrounding him. Even though he still looked the same as he did five seconds ago, Keira knew him well enough that he was worried they wouldn't get back before their father.

All the girls groaned, but Jakob and Keira ignored them as they jumped into Jakob's car and sped off down the road and headed home without saying a word to each other. Both were too wrapped up in their thoughts to wonder how their day at school was.

When Jakob pulled into the driveway of their home, Keira was filled with fear. Their father's car was in the driveway also. They didn't make it back before him. Out the corner of Keira's eye, she could see Jakob send her a worried look before they both reluctantly got out of the car and slowly walked inside, praying that father had had a good day at work and wouldn't bother them tonight.

Unfortunately, Keira never got her wish. As soon as they walked through the door, their father was on them in a second.

"Where were you two?" he screamed at them, but more at Keira then Jakob. Their father was a scary man being easily 6'7, just as tall as Jakob, but three times as strong. Jakob got his blonde hair and brown eyes off of our father, but father always kept his hair short and out of his eyes.

"We just got home from school dad," said Jakob, trying to calm their father down. That was a difference between Keira and her brother. Keira would call their parents mother and father, but Jakob would always call their father dad.

"Don't make up excuses for your sister!" Her father always thought the worst of Keira; even though there was no proof of her doing anything that he had accused her of doing. "What was she doing this time? Fucking the first boy she saw?"

"No father! I've never done that before and you know it!" Keira desperately tried to assure her father that she had done nothing like that.

"Don't talk back to me, you little shit!" Keira's father raised his hand behind his head and she prepared herself for what she knew was coming. She didn't expect Jakob to help her and she was happy that he didn't because last time he tried to do that, he ended up worse than she did. Keira closed her eyes and when she felt the harsh sting of his hand on her cheek, Keira feel to the ground without a sound, fully used to the pain that his hand caused her.
