Chapter 23
Richard Neil Sky
Old FlameCade and I just watch each other. The kiss has triggered it all. We weren't supposed to kiss. He kissed me, and for some reason, I kissed him back. And that makes it a lot worst that it ever is. I'm supposed to be grieving, not kissing my old boyfriend. Boyfriend. It still feels weird at the tip of my tongue; like the word is an alien to me. Cade holds my hand and my eyes watch the movement.
"Chad, if you want... I... I can leave you alone, never to bother you again," he says as he averts his eyes and blinks back tears, then purses his lips; he's trying to suppress a cry. I squeeze his hand.
"No, don't. Just don't." I say, gripping his hand, as if I'm making sure that he will still be here by my side. Cade's lips quirk into a small smile and scoots a little closer to give me a hug. We hug for awhile, and this is the first time I've ever been happy in my life ever since the death of my wife, Genny.
"Let's enjoy life, shall we?" He asks in my ear and I give a bried nod before he calls out our friends and we both pull away from a hug. With a loving look in our eyes, our friends come into the house and shout, dancing and singing as they twirl. Both Cade and I laugh and my heart lightens. It feels like I've been pulled out from the dark and now, here I am, in front of so many lights and witnessing how beautiful they are.
Both Cade and I stand up and join them dancing. Tesla twerks his both and we all burst out laughing as we watch Tesla shakes his booty. Maggy does the sexy dance where she sways her hips slowly while humming an awful sexy song. I swear she looks like a slut wanting to be fucked by a gorilla or something. Karl and Carlo take each other hands and do the chacha and tears well up in my eyes from happiness. Cade takes my hand and twirls me around and I smile up at him. Damn, he's still taller than me.
That's when my son, Noah comes into the living room and when he sees us dancing, his eyes widen and he bursts out laughing without stopping himself. Everybody stares at him and Maggy is the first one to introduce himself.
"Oh hi, you must be Chad's son, Noah, right?" Maggy offers her hand to my son and Noah takes it as he nods at Maggy. Noah has grown up a lot. Back then, he had an attitude problem. He was always pushing people away, but then Gloss came into his life and everything changed. After his mom left him, he became different. He was once a happy kid, but after that, he became a bully, much like Cade, and Noah was always grumpy, but then Gloss changed everything about him and made him like he was once before. I'm forever grateful of Gloss because of what he has done for Noah. "Wow, you look a lot like your father. The cheeks, the eyes, and oh, the brows!" Maggy pinches Noah's cheeks and Noah looks at her like she has lost her mind already.
Gloss comes in and is ranting about how her professor is being a bitch and everything and he's not looking in his way and he bumps himself on Noah. Gloss yelps and glares at the person and when he sees Noah, he smiles immediately and Noah gives Gloss a kiss on the lips and everybody 'oohs'. Gloss' cheeks redden and he scowls at Noah. Noah just chuckles.
"Um, that's Gloss, my son's boyfriend," I introduce Gloss to my friends and they all give Gloss a nod and Gloss smiles dashingly. It's one of his charms. "And he's the son of my, uh, wife, Genny." Cade begins to be uncomfortable as I mention Genny's name. They all shake Gloss' hands and Noah grabs Gloss' hand and tugs him and together, they run upstairs to their room. They've been sharing a room ever since they got together officially.
Another person comes into the room, shouting my son's name. "Noah! Noah! You're such an arse!" It's his friend, Mickey 'Mike' Hollister. "You probably left me so you can have sex with your boyfriend. I'm going to kill you, you bic - oh, hi, Richard!"
I give him a nod of acknowledgement and Mike gives a salute and runs upstairs, to Noah and Gloss' rooms. Everyone bursts out laughing because of Mike, which makes me laugh too.

Everyone has gone back and I'm left with a pain banging on my chest, but it lessens when a thought of Cade's face and smiles fill up my mind. Before he left, he gave a long, warm hug and his number so we can text each other whenever and wherever we want. I know, very childish, but somehow, it made me happy. Also, Cade promised that he would never ever leave me again. He made it clear when he planted a soft kiss on my lips and I'm not going to lie, the sparks are still there. When he kissed me, it felt like I was soaring up high into the sky without wings to support me.
I can still feel his warm lips grazing against mine and I want it to happen again. Sounds crazy. After all, he has hurt me real time, but despite the fact that he left me, I still want him.
Martha, the newly hired staff of our house, is cooking dinner for us and I watch her with unfazed, happy eyes and to others, I may seem to look like a crazy person. My fingers find its way to feel the soft skin of my lips, where Cade had kissed me so many times. Martha looks at me and smiles, probably sensing something strange around me. Martha's my parents' best friend, and ever since my parents died, she was checking up on me always.
"You seem very happy," she speaks with a caring tone. With her long black hair in a pony tail, wearing an apron, and her height being short, she'd pass as my second mother. She turns the stove into a medium heat and grabs a parmesan cheese in the fridge and puts some into the dish that she's cooking. "I haven't seen you smile ever since..." Martha lets her sentence hanging and my smile falters, but comes back again as I know that another chapter in my life has begun.
"That's okay, Martha." I say to her, walking over in front of her and giving her a hug. "Ever since Genny died, I've been crying my eyes out and I'm so tired of it. I need to continue my life. Knowing Genny, she'd probably scold me because I'm being a baby. I don't want to be stuck in this situation, Martha. Genny would be thrilled if she sees me smiling and finally moving on. I know she's watching me in heaven."
"I'm glad you're taking a step," she says as she stirs the dish and the scent invades my nose and my stomach grumbles. "You're taking a huge step. I'm proud of you, Richard."
"I know," I say to her, untangling myself from the hug. I smile widely and she laughs lightly at me and shakes her head. "Martha, do... do you think I can fall in love again?"
"You are already in love, dear." Martha says with a chirp and I shut my mouth tight. "You have always been in love." She knows me too well. She gives me a small smile that says everything and I now know what to do. "Noah! Gloss! Dinner's ready!"
Martha then grabs four plates and puts them on the table in the kitchen area. I help her fix everything on the table. In a heartbeat, Gloss and Noah are already in the dining area and sitting on a stool. When I take a look at Gloss, he's looking at the tool where her mom used to sit and a sad look covers up his face. Noah notices and gives him a kiss on the lips and murmurs something in his ear. Gloss smiles immediately and I watch them smile at each other. Marthan then places a bowl of stew on the table and everyone's faces, including mine, lights up. Martha grins in satisfaction and takes a seat across from my seat and I take mine. She claps her hands and we all dig in. Gloss scoops a stew and Noah opens his mouth, then Gloss puts what he scooped into Noah's mouth and he moans in delight. Gloss chuckles and gives Noah a kiss on the lips. Martha rolls her eyes playfully.
As I eat, an image of a teenager Cade eating with his friends cloud up my mind and I eat in peaceful as my mind roams into a different world. Cade and I's world.
