"I wanna sing, I wanna shout, I wanna scream 'til the words dry out. So put it in all of the papers, I'm not afraid, they can read all about it, read all about it..."

Meredith Grey was having a good day. She cherished these, they were rare. She knew she should be happy, she had a family, 3 beautiful children, caring friends who served as a second family, her heart was beating and her lungs were breathing. She should be happy. But some days it was hard.
She was minding her own business, looking for either Maggie or Amelia to ask one of them if they could watch the kids tonight while she ran the graveyard shift.
As she rounded the corner, she saw Amelia leaving a patient's room, examining the chart once more, and handing it to a nurse behind the desk.
"Hey, I've been looking for you." Meredith said as she approached her. "If you're not busy tonight I need someone to watch the kids, and Zola and Bailey have been asking for their 'Aunty Amy'"
Amelia smiled for the first time since her encounter with Owen earlier that day. She was happy that her niece and nephew had asked for her, but she couldn't help feeling a pang of sadness as Meredith called her "Amy." Derek used to call her that. She used to say that only Derek could call her that.
"Well, you can tell them that I would love to watch them for the night. Luckily, I'm not on call."
"Thank's, Amelia. They'll be overjoyed to spend the night with you." Meredith said before her pager went off, she cursed under her breath, and took off to take care of her 9-1-1.
Amelia smiled, she loved Zola, Bailey, and baby Ellis so much, it made her feel like maybe her life wasn't such a mess after all as long as they loved her.
She heard her own pager go off, it was Webber, he needed a neuro consult. She was still smiling as she made her way to where she was needed.
She wasn't paying much attention as she rounded the corner and collided head on with someone who seemed to be in a hurry. She felt an immediate but small pain in her shoulder as a result of colliding with this person, who was obviously much larger than her. She turned around to see who she had run into and he did the same.
But because the universe wouldn't allow Amelia even a smidgen of luck that day, it was, of course, Owen Hunt.
She began to apologize but stopped when she locked eyes with him.
"Watch where you're going." He said harshly, and quite loudly I might add. A couple heads turned to look at them as he rushed off to wherever it was he was headed in the first place.
Amelia just rolled her eyes and avoided the stares of the people around her. She felt her palms get sweaty, this reminded her of the day that the woman from one of her support groups told everyone in the hospital of her past drug problem.
She didn't like people staring at her, she didn't want to be the centre of their focus, she didn't want them to know anything about her. There were very few people who Amelia Shepherd opened up to, so if she does, you'd better damn well listen.

While consulting with Webber on his patient who had been seizing, Amelia couldn't help but notice the funny looks he'd been giving her, until she remembered her breakdown in the supply room and how she'd never actually fixed her makeup. She sighed as she realized that she must have looked like an absolute mess.
She made her way to a bathroom where she began to wipe the makeup from underneath her eyes and some faint streaks of tears down her cheeks. it wasn't until she head a toilet flush behind her and Maggie Pierce stepped out from a stall.
She immediately raised an eyebrow when she noticed Amelia wiping her eyes. "You okay?" Maggie Pierce was somewhat of a godsend. She felt like she didn't really fit in at Grey Sloan yet, probably because it was such a tight woven group. The bomb incident, the shooting, the relationships, the deaths, the plane crash, the storm, all these traumatic experiences forced them to be close. And Maggie hadn't been there to experience any of them.
But that's why her being here was so nice. She was innocent, pure, optimistic, she cared. She was clean. That might be the only reason that Amelia decided to tell her the truth while they were standing in a hospital bathroom.
"I had a fight with Owen." Amelia explained with a sigh, throwing the piece of paper towel she'd been using in the garbage.
        "Chief Hunt?" Maggie responded, confused.
"Him and I have, sort of, been having this thing, if that's even what you could call it."
Maggie raised her eyebrows again. "You. And the chief. Why is everyone at this hospital in relationships with each other! Seriously, do you guys realize that there is a whole world out there that isn't employed at Grey Sloan Memorial!" Maggie rambled on, she was nice, but damn could she talk.
"We weren't exactly in a relationship. We would have been, if it went on, I'm sure we would have. But that's over now, so, you know what, don't worry about me, I'm just having a rough day."
Maggie wasn't convinced, but she'd learned that when a doctor working in this hospital didn't want to talk about something, they won't. Frankly, she was surprised that Amelia had told her about it at all, maybe the people here were warming up to her after all.

*****

She wasn't going to tell anyone about it, she really wasn't. But when she ran into Meredith later that day, Maggie had to tell her what she'd heard. "Did you know that Dr Shepherd and Chief Hunt were a thing?" She blurted out without warning. They sat in the attending's lounge after a long day that wasn't nearly finished for Meredith.
"Yeah, she spent the night with him once, came home in the same clothes as she wore the night before, then Hunt himself poked his head in the door. And before that I'd heard Amy and Derek up late one night talking about him." Meredith explained to her half sister.
"Well, they're over now. Apparently Hunt called it quits this morning, Shepherd hasn't been taking it so well, she was crying in the bathroom last time I saw her."
"Really? Wow, that doesn't sound like her."
Maggie regretted telling Meredith something so private about Amelia, but talking to Meredith wasn't something that happened a lot for Maggie, it was nice to have a sister.

*****

1:00am rolled around fairly quickly, Amelia had gotten all 3 kids to sleep and she tidied up the living room that had gotten pretty messy with Zola's Barbies and Bailey's Legos.
She ended the long day by curling up on the couch, she'd planned on putting on some kind of show, but was exhausted and never got around to picking up the remote. Her eyes had just closed and she'd just begun to drift off when she heard something that made her blood run cold and she shot straight up from the couch.
She ran to where she thought the scream came from and to her utmost horror, there was Zola, bent over an unconscious Bailey.
