Breathe

"2 am and she calls me 'cause I'm still awake, 'Can you help me unravel my latest mistake? I don't love him, winter just wasn't my season.' Yeah, we walk through the doors, so accusing their eyes like they have any right at all to criticize, hypocrites. You're all here for the very same reason. And breathe, just breathe."

"Incoming trauma, get a bed ready!" April Kepner yelled to whoever was listening, as she ran to find Hunt.
She ran into him, quickly making his way towards the E.R. doors to wait for the ambulance. "Chief, the call came from Dr Shepherd-" She began, but Owen interrupted her before she could get the whole story out.
        "What?"
"She was watching Dr Grey's children and Bailey was hurt, that's all I know, but I think it would be a good idea to do our best to keep Meredith away from the pit until we get him all fixed up."
Hunt didn't have time to agree before an Ambulance came and out stepped Amelia, clearly on the verge of hysteria.
"What do we got?" April asked the paramedics as they carefully lifted the gurney out of the ambulance.
"He fell out of his crib, landed on something sharp that knocked him unconscious and gave him a nasty gash on his forehead." A paramedic explained as she, the other paramedic, and Dr Kepner pushed the gurney inside.
"Is he okay? Is he going to be okay!" Amelia had been somewhat screaming since she had arrived, but no one was answering her.
In her head, she kept repeating to herself; He's fine, you're a neurosurgeon, he's fine and you know it. But the words never seemed to make it very far and she remained hysterical.
Owen was about to make his way back inside when he turned to look at her. "Is he going to be okay? Owen, please, please, is he going to be okay?" She tried to steady her breathing and wipe her eyes, she needed to calm down.
"Dr Shepherd, calm down, follow me, Bailey will be fine, you know that." He sounded concerned, but impatient. The tone in his voice shouldn't have made her feel better, but somehow he was able to comfort her anyway as she followed him back into the emergency room.

It only took a half hour for Bailey to be his usual, toddler, self again. He had woken up not long after they'd gotten him into a hospital bed.
April was going to take the case, but a bigger trauma came in and Hunt covered for her.
Owen had gotten someone from neuro down for a consult while he stitched up little Bailey. Amelia sat with him and ran her hands through his blond hair while Owen fixed him up.
She didn't know if it was comforting Bailey, or it was more comforting for her.
Owen had just finished his last stitch, gave Bailey's hand a little squeeze, and paged Meredith.
"Well, Bailey, that was quite a fall you took there, but you're going to be just fine. You're mom's on her way."
Amelia let out a sigh of relief. The neurosurgeon in her should have known all along that he would be fine, but when someone you love is in trouble you immediately lose your entire sense of reason and expect the worst.
She cleared her throat at Hunt turned to leave. "Thank you, Owen."
He turned back for just a minute. "Yeah." He responded and made his way over to help April who seemed to have gotten herself in over her head with a man who was impaled with some kind of metal rod.
Meredith appeared not long after, red faced and sweaty from running. She gave Bailey a quick hug and thanked Amelia for bringing him in.
"Bailey, honey, I told you, you've got to stop climbing all over your crib!" Bailey just laughed and Meredith was nothing but relieved. "Where's Zola and Ellis?" She asked her sister-in-law.
"Maggie's with them. Poor Zola, witnessed the whole thing from her bed."
Meredith sighed. "I should get home to them, my shift's almost over anyway."
