“Zivana?” Romeo smirked at my dumb facial expression.
“Romeo!” I laughed, breaking the silence and running down the stairs and pulled him into a huge hug. “Gosh, I haven’t seen you for a whole three hours!” I joked.
“It’s been torture!” He exclaimed, and then lowered his voice so no one could hear, “How are you?”
I smiled warmly at his concern, “Better now.”
“So I take it you went to school today Rome?” My dad laughed.
“Yeah. I wasn’t sure if Zivana remembered me. I was hoping she wouldn’t” Romeo laughed. The adults joined in. I didn’t get it.
“What? You don’t remember Zivana?” Roger’s blue eyes crinkled at the corners.
“No…?” My face went to Roger’s, to Maria, to Mom to dad and back to Roger again.
“Well… last time I saw you; you threw a mud cake at my face and told me never to kiss you again.” Romeo answered, a small strain in his voice. I was sure only I could hear it behind the laughing.
“How long ago was this?!” Romeo kissed me and I objected to it? What the hell was I thinking?!
“You were probably a bit older than Tyson.” Mom said. Tyson started clapping his hands when his name was mentioned.
“Why don’t I remember this?” I was angry, and that made them all laugh hard. Like… really hard.
“Come on Roge, we got some meat to cook.” Dad was shaking his head at me laughing, while Roger followed him outside and Mom, Maria and Tyson went to get the salad I presume.
“Come up to my room” I pulled him by the hands back up the stairs and through my bright white door.
Quietly shutting the door with one hand, Romeo stood right in front of me. Our breath mingling.
He looked questioningly at me. “You seemed upset when you didn’t seem to remember that I kissed you. It was only on the cheek I promise.”
“I was a stupid kid if I objected” Good god, did I just say that?!
He didn’t say anything, but his fingers lightly brushed my cheek and the other hand wrapped around my waist. He smelt… good. Kind of like the deodorant he used, and kind of like the earth. The smell you got when you walked into a forest, all the animals, plants and packed dirt beneath your feet.
“Can I kiss you Zivana? That’s if you have gone back on your vow.” He leaned closer and I stretched up, trying to get closer.
“Please, Zivana?” Slowly coming closer, our noses almost touching.
“Yes, Romeo.” He smiled and went in, going beyond the nose.
He was very gentlemanly about it. Only my lips, he didn’t try and shove his tongue down my throat like my old boyfriend did. But I wasn’t happy with just lips, I forced his mouth open with my tongue and they did a little dance. But more exciting.
I kept my arms around his neck, and walked backwards towards the bed, lying down with him on top of me.
Nothing could ruin this moment. Except your mom pounding on the door telling you tea is ready.
