Happy Thanksgiving! Gobble Gobble!!!

.........

Thanksgiving Day (noun)

Def: a national holiday celebrated as a day of feasting and giving thanks for divine favors or goodness, observed on the fourth Thursday of November in the U.S. and in Canada on the second Monday of October.

I have never celebrated Thanksgiving. Not even once. My mom and grandma hated celebrating holidays. How can someone hate thanksgiving or Christmas? I have no idea. When they died I didn't have anyone to celebrate it with. I didn't have friends or family members who knew about me. My sister had moved in england with her rich boyfriend and left me with our abusive, and alcoholic father.

I was home with the little pup when I got a message from Mark saying that his family is celebrating Thanksgiving and his mom invited me. I wanted to say no but I didn't want to be rude. So I said yes and told them I was bringing lasagna. He cheered when I told him that I was making lasagna. I asked him if anyone was vegetarian in his family and he said no.

So here I am buying ingredients to make my favorite dish.

I was in the kitchen preparing everything. I put a big pot on the stove and let it heat. Then I put the meat in the pan and cooked it until it was brown. Then I added the sauce and tomatoes to the saucepot. I let it cook for 15 minutes then I started making the ricotta. While the ricotta was on the stove I put another big pot on the stove for the noodles. I put some water and let it boil.

.......

12579493474839 seconds later (lets just pretend the guy from spongebob is saying it lol.)

The lasagna was ready and it smelled delicious. I put it on the kitchen table and then went to my bedroom to find something to wear. I had to be at the Armando's at 6. It was 4:37 right now.

I fed the dog and then took a shower. I put on a maroon sweater, a black skirt with a brown belt and tights. I put my hair down and put on lip balm.

I checked the time on my phone and it was almost five thirty. I texted Mark and asked him for his parent's address. When he sent it to me I called a cab to come and pick me up. I put the lasagna in a dish carrier I bought in a thrift store a year ago.

The cab came and I pick up my purse and walked downstairs. I got inside the cab and gave the driver the address. It was a very long drive. When I arrived to the Armando's household I saw Mr. Alaric getting out of his car. He smiled at me when he saw me.

"Hello, Miss Teixeira."

"Hello, Mr. Armando." I said smiling back at him. He saw me struggle to take money out of my purse while I was carrying the dish carrier. So he paid the driver and carried the food for me. "You didn't have to pay for me, but thank you."

"No problem. Come on let's go." He opened the gate and walked inside.

He opened the door for us and let me in first. "Mom we're here."

"In the kitchen!" She yells. We walk to the humongous kitchen and he put the carrier on the counter. "Is that lasagna?" She asked smiling and hugging me.

"Yes, it is." I said and hugged her back.

"I love lasagna."

"I'll be right back." Mr. Alaric said and left the kitchen.

"Where's Mark?"

"He's in the living room with his dad and Jenna."

"I'm going to say hi to them." She nodded and went back to making the mashed potatoes. I walk to the living room. I could hear music coming from the TV. They were watching the Macy's Day parade. Mariah Carey was performing "All I Want For Christmas". "Hello, guys."

"Natália, hey." Mark kissed my cheek and his dad gave me a hug. Jenna squealed when she saw me. She hugged me so tight I thought she was going to suffocate me. "Alright babe, she's turning red. You can let go of her." Mark said while he wrapped his arms around Jenna's waist to pull her away. He kisses her neck and hugged her from behind.

They're so freaking cute.

"I'm back." I heard Mr. Alaric say. "And I also have wine. Your favorite mother."

"Okay, thanks sweetheart. Dinner will be ready in five."

When it was time for dinner we all went to the dining room. The mouth watering smell of a homemade dinner fills the air.  As we all are gathered around the long, rectangular oak wood table, covered in a crème colored cloth, a sudden warm, content feeling is felt. The lighting is dim. Although there are several lengthy candles lit, it is the presence of each other's faces that light the dining room.

Mr. Armando (Alaric and Mark's dad) prayed and we started eating. Dinner was filled with joy and laughter and it was the best night ever to be honest.

.....

"Thank you so much for inviting me." I said to Mrs. Armando.

She smiled sweetly. "No problem sweetheart.  You're such a lovely girl."

"Thank you." She hugged me and kissed my cheek and then walk to sit next to her husband.

We were outside having a bonfire. It was pretty. We couldn't see the starts in the sky because, well, its New York.

"So, are you having fun?" Mr. Alaric asked me.

I smiled. "Yes I am. I don't usually celebrate holidays. Its my first time actually."

He looked socked. "Really?" I nodded. "How come?"

I tucked my hair behind my ear and said. "Well, my mom hated holidays. Like all of them?"

"Hated?"

I gulped. "Yes."

"I'm sorry."

"It's okay." I said, my voice breaking. I cleared my throat and looked away. He put his hand on my knee and rubbed it. It was pretty weird.

Actually all of this is weird. Me celebrating Thanksgiving at my boss's house. Him touching my knee. That's very unprofessional.

An hour later we started getting ready to go home. Jenna was going to her parents with Mark. They were pretty late. I called a cab a few minutes before Mr. Alaric offered me a ride.

I said bye to everyone and went home. On my way home I remember that I have a "date" with Miles.

Today was an awesome day.
