By the time I got into the school I figured out something, I'm gonna go out with Josh. I know it's a bad idea, I know he's probably gonna reject me and end up with *serious cringe* Haylee, and I know he will ignore me forever if I do ask him out, but I have to. It's for true love.
I wandered the halls, searching for Josh. Where could he be? Finally, I found him. Talking to some of his friends, typical.
I walked up to the group and took a deep breath. This could be amazing or terrible or both. I have to be prepared. I grabbed Josh by the sleeve and he turned around. "Oh hey Jaylen."
"Hey, I gotta talk to you." I pulled him over to a corner of the hall.
"What is it?" He frowned at me. "Is something wrong?"
"No." I smiled. "It's something else." I took a breath. "Wanna go out with me?"
Wow. That was bad. My voice cracked and it sounded really awkward. He's definitely not gonna want to go out with me now.
I frowned. "That sounded terrible didn't it."
"It sounded perfect." Josh smiled at me. "And yes Jaylen, I will go out with you."
"Yes!" I gave him a hug.
He smiled even bigger and said, "Be right back." He rushed away and back to his circle of friends. I saw Carson and Ben among them. Oh no.
I snuck behind Josh and listened in on the conversation.
"Hey guys guess what?" Josh smiled at them. Oh no. He's gonna tell them.
"What?" Some of the guys asked.
"She asked me." Josh smiled as Ben and Carson shouted.
"No!"
"What!! How could she!"
I smiled. Maybe I did make the right choice after all.
"Pay up guys." Josh smirked as Carson and Ben reached in their pockets. "I told ya she was gonna ask me out first. I mean, I did get her first kiss."
Carson muttered something under his breath as Ben spoke some choice words to Josh. They both handed Josh $10.
I chose this moment to interfere. "What the heck is going on?" I walked into the circle.
"Nothing sweetheart." Josh smiled at me as he shoved the cash in his pocket.
"How much did you see?" Asked Carson as Ben slowly backed out of the whole thing.
"Ben get back here." I said, without even turning my back on Josh.
"Someone explain to me what is going on."
One of their friends who's name I didn't even know spoke up.
"Well they made a deal of course." He said it as if it was the easiest thing ever.
"What deal?" I had a feeling I already knew and I was hoping I was wrong.
"A deal about-" The boy was cut off by Ben covering his mouth.
"Don't you dare tell her." He snarled at the boy.
"She kinda deserves to know though." Josh frowned at Ben with a sad look in his eyes.
"Do you wanna loose her?" Ben sighed. "Idiot. If I would've got her than this would never had happened because I'm not stupid like you guys."
"WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON!" I screamed, demanding answers.
"Fine. I'll explain." Carson finally said something. "Think back to a few days ago. Remember when there was that big group in the hallway and no one knew what was going on? Think about that when I tell you this. That's when this happened."
-Flashback-
"I gathered you guys here for one reason, and that's to strike up a deal." Ben Hock smiled at the other two guys.
"I don't know why you want him here" Carson Lilet grinned. "But no, you can not be my secretary when I become president."
"Idiot, that's not why I wanted you here." Ben shook his head and facepalmed.
"Why did you want us here then?" Josh Adams, the last of the three guys frowned.
"Like I said, I'm gonna make a deal."
"Bout what?" Carson said.
"Bout Jaylen." All three guys knew exactly what Ben was talking about. "I need some money and I know Jaylen likes me best so I came up with this deal."
"Just explain the deal already. I got places to be, people to meet." Carson frowned and brushed some dirt off his shirt.
"Okay, whichever one of us Jaylen asks out first get the money." Ben smiled. "You might as well pay me now."
"I'm in." Josh smiled.
"I'm not!" Carson frowned. "What would happen if Jaylen found out?"
"Yeah." Josh frowned.
"Keyword there, if." Ben smiled. "Deal?"
"Deal." The two guys smiled.
-Present Day-
"So now you know why we hid that from you." Josh looked slightly ashamed.
I had no words. I was so furious that the guys would go behind my back and make a stupid deal like that! I slapped all three of them and walked out.
"Hey Josh! It's over!" I shouted over my shoulder. All of his friends were making fun of him about short relationships and some other crap.
I don't know what to do now. My whole love life was a lie. I just wanted to cry in the corner.
I skipped all of my classes and hid in the library. I couldn't possibly go knowing I would have to see the guys.
--
I must have fallen asleep at one point because I woke up to the sounds of the bell and shuffling feet. I jumped up and ran through the halls, eager to get on the bus and go home so I can cry until I have no more tears.
I got on the bus and ran to the back, slapping Ben on my way. "Hey!" He got up for a second until I gave him a look that made him sit right back down.
I laid in the the back seat with my head propped up in my hands and my feet dangling in the isle.
"Hey." I opened my eyes. Ben was standing above me.
"Go away." I looked away, tears threatening to spill out at the sight of him.
"I just wanted to say that honestly I am very sorry and-"
"No your not." I cut him off, my voice squeaking a bit. "Go away."
He stopped and turned around. He slowly went back to his seat, looking back at me once or twice.
After he was gone my tears didn't hold back any longer. A few streamed down my face before I wiped them away. A face peered at me from around the seat. It was Jake Caylor. "What's the matter?" He frowned and slid into the seat next to me.
"Everything!" I cried, wiping my tears away just for them to be replaced by the new ones trickling down my face.
"Everything you say." He thought for a moment. "What do you mean?"
"Today was crazy." I just said.
"Well, whatever happened I'm sure it will turn out alright."
"Yeah. Maybe it won't be so bad..." I rested my head on his shoulder and smiled for the first time since I found out about the deal. "You know, your really nice."
He smiled. "Thanks." I thought of Carson. He would say something stupid like, "I know."
I just closed my eyes and listened to his breathing. I could get used to this.
