One week passed. Two. Three. And Marney still hadn't seen the mysterious, good-looking stranger. Why did she keep thinking about him? Why? Because she wanted him to ask her out? Marney had been on a few unimportant dates, but not many. She hated those Cinderella, princess fairy-tale books, how they always ended up having a happily ever after ending. Her parents' deaths had shown her that those mushy feelings and happy endings never were true.
Marney sighed frustratedly as she sifted through the sand, looking for the aqua shell she had seen wash up.
"Hello there."
The deep, masculine voice sent shivers up her spine as she slowly turned her hand to see the strange customer that she had felt drawn to.
"H-hi..." Marney stuttered, suddenly feeling shy. Her loose, baggy tee that she had slept in seemed suddenly too awkward, too big, but at the same time too exposing, even though it showed absolutely nothing.
"I was wondering if you could make me another one of those smoothies that looked delicious, although this time, put the lid on, please," the stranger said smoothly, seeming oblivious of the awkwardly pleasant feeling that was racing up and down Marney's body.
Marney stared up into his blue eyes that looked like melted blue sapphires, and the deepest blue of the clear ocean, and the glimpse of that beautiful blue that you saw for merely a second before the sun set. She was startled out of her thoughts as a wave broke all over her, completely soaking her.
A startled cry broke out of Marney's mouth as the tide sucked back into the ocean, along with the aqua shell she had been trying to find. Only after that she realized the stranger was staring hungrily at her. Marney glanced self-conciously at her soaked body and realized that her baggy t-shirt had become wet and was clinging to Marney's figure.
"Umm, about that smoothie, um, I'd be glad to get you one, just one moment--" Marney murmered, not even bothering to look back as she raced back into her shack, peeled off her soaking top, and exchanged it for a classier one that was dark blue with thin sleeves and less baggy than her other one. Then she emerged to the bar, where the stranger was waiting.
He turned towards her, and Marney looked away, suddenly flustered. Why was she acting like this? What did she do to deserve a gorgeous hunk that was stalking her and making it seem so innocent? When Marney finally collected her thoughts, she turned back to find the handsome stranger gone. In his place was a note that was written in an elegant script that most men lacked. The note said four simple words that made Marney's breathing hitch.
My name is Cole.
