Marney didn't have to wait long this time before Cole showed his beautiful blue eyes.
"I'd like one of your famous strawberry banana smoothies, please," he said, smirking at Marney. She gulped a bit, before throwing all of the ingredients in the blender and making sure to check that the lid was securely on this time before he had a delicious, frothy smoothie.
"Here you go," Marney said in what she hoped was a smooth, flirty manner. To her it sounded like a robot on caffine with a cough. Hopefully Cole didn't think so.
Cole chuckled. "Thank you. But I didn't come just for the smoothie. I want to get to know you. Now I told you my name; what's yours?"
Marney blushed. "Um, I'll ask my ste-- manager for a break and we can play Q&A."
Cole smiled. "Sure." Marney yelled back to her Sarah, her step mother. "I'm going to take a quick break, Sarah, I've already collected my day's worth salary and shells." She made a sound and a shooing motion, not looking up from counting Marney's own money. Marney took it as a yes, and, grabbing Cole's wrist, sprinted for her favorite cave before Sarah could realize that she just gave Marney an undeserved break.
"So," Cole said as they sat on the rocks, "I'll start."
"Favorite color?" he said.
"Blue. Yours?"
"Green. Favorite animal?"
"Sea otter. You?"
"Armidillo. Favorite book?"
"Probably the Dolphin Diaries. You?"
"Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Favorite... movie?"
"Umm... The Little Mermaid," Marney said quickly, blushing and looking down. Cole looked surprised for a moment before smirking.
"Seriously? Your favorite movie is a children's Disney movie?"
"Well, what's yours?" Marney snapped.
"That's hard... probably I Love You, Beth Cooper."
It was Marney's turn to snort. "You like that movie? Lame!"
Cole smiled gently but pridefully. "Yes. And The Little Mermaid is any better?"
Marney blushed again and mentally slapped herself. She needed to go to a doctor; she had been blushing more now than she had in her whole life. "Well... next question!"
Cole smiled genuinely this time, then glanced at his watch. "Oh, sorry..." he mumbled apologetically. "I'm late for work; need to get going."
Marney tried to keep the disappointment off of her face. She had nothing to look forward to now. Cole must've seen the frown on her face because his expression softened. "I'll be back tomorrow, all right?"
Marney visibly brightened. "All right." She couldn't explain it. She was just.... happy when she was with Cole. He just seemed to know when to make a joke, when to smile, laugh, and even though this was only her third meeting with him, she felt herself drawn to him.
What have I become? Marney asked herself silently as he stood up and walked away. I'm becoming just like a mushy princess!
