Chapter 15 - Kiss Me Slowly

I step out of my house, greeted by a cold breeze. If I knew it would be this cold, I wouldn't have chosen this top. It's dark blue with laces. And since it's a top it doesn't have anything to warm my bare arms.

I glance at my clock, then look around me confused. Why isn't Ian here yet? I thought he'd said he'd be here at 5.

Suddenly my phone vibrates in my pocket (I turned the volume off because of the date. Am I prepared or what?). It's a text message. From Ian.

Walk ten steps forward and look at the ground.

Having no idea why he'd want me to do that, I do as he says. Or wrote, but whatever.

When I look down at the pavement in front of me I see a pink sticky note held on place by a rock. I pick both of the items up and look at the note. Something is written on it.

Come find me.

Ok, fair enough. But how?

Suddenly I notice how the rock looks. It almost looks like... An arrow! I look to the right where it points. On a tree a few feet away I see another note. And another one on the tree behind that. He obviously wants me to follow the notes.

So then I do. After collecting the ones on the trees I notice another one on the pavement. And so it goes on. I always see a new note after finding one. They all have the same written on it in typical boy's writing, either it's come find me or an arrow.

After walking for about five minutes, collecting twenty sticky notes or so, I've come to the beginning of the woods. Am I supposed to go in here? Why? What kind of date could you have in the middle of a wood? But even though I'm skeptical I still go on, continuing to find notes on every other tree or branch.

Suddenly I reach a little clearing. And in the middle of that clearing, where the sun shines and the grass is a beautiful green color, Ian is standing with a picnic basket in his hand. He grins when he sees me, and I can't help but grin back at him.

"Hi," he says when I walk up to him.

"Hi," I answer, then I put the pink sticky notes in his palm. "I think this belongs to you."

"Glad you found me," Ian smiles at me. A warm feeling spreads inside me, and I can't help but smile back at him. His eyes light up when he smiles. It's really cute. Suddenly he looks a little uncertain. "I wasn't sure if you'd like it though. And I'd totally understand if you didn't, I mean not all girls like walking in the woods... Or being in the woods - we can go somewhere else if you want?"

I can't help but laugh. And I thought his smile was cute! He's even cuter when he's nervous. Then I see his expression and I feel bad for laughing.

"I'm sorry," I say. "It's just that... This is one of the nicest things someone has ever done for me, and you're not sure if I like it." His smile is still uncertain, so I add, "But I love it, Ian. It was really fun."

He grins at me and I grin back at him, again. "Ready for some picnic?" Ian asks.

"Of course," I say

He takes a blue blanket (which have the exact same color as his eyes) and folds it out on the grass. Then he starts removing stuff from the basket; there's sandwiches, a salad, a pai and blueberry muffins.

He looks shyly up at me. "I wasn't sure what you like, so I just grabbed all the food I could think of."

"It's perfect," I say and sit down beside him.

He smiles satisfied, then he asks, "What do you want first?"

I look at the food. It all seems so delicious.
