Ready or not,

Here I come,

Where you at,

The night is young.

Mum calls up in the morning- which is so caring because she's taken two and a half minutes out of work to do so. In that short span- I've been told, no, ordered to start with my SAT preparation and go through my eleventh form books. Wow, way to spend the summer. So my cranky mood is not at all surprising. These moods are rare, but when they arrive, the world is my enemy.

I've always been an average student, but my grades dropped quite a bit since the last three years. No surprise there. People take death very differently; while mom began to work day and night, even though she didn't need to, I lost interest in everything I loved. Everything that reminded me of him. It's funny really, how a death can change everything. And how long it takes to piece your life back together. I grumble. Anyway, I've to go to the bookstore today in order to buy everything. Life can be rough sometimes.

The afternoon is spent in SAT preparations. 'Euphonious?' Clarisse asks, glancing up from the book. 'I know this one! I do...just let me recollect it. Wait.' Clarisse sighs as a minute ticks by. 'Agreeableness of sound, euphonious. Her euphonious voice and eloquence made it very easy to listen to her speak.'

'Got it!' I say, trying to muster some energy, but I'm drained. 'Let's take a break now?'

'We took one twenty minutes ago Sky, it's still early.' She sighs again, taking a look at my sullen face. 'Okay, five minutes.'

Ian and I are skipping the sponsorship event this evening. Instead we're going to hang out at his place, painting the banners.

'It's two', I tell her, 'let's quickly eat lunch. I've to be at Ian's at four.'

'Tch, you have to pass at least, you know?' But then we both know I have her wrapped around my little finger.

..........

I flop onto Ian's bed, too bored to even feel awkward. Cam's persistence and perseverance allowed him to paint the banner with us. But his complete lack of artistic abilities did not help at all. 'Cam, you want to play scrabble instead?' My voice is kind, even though my internal feelings don't exactly coincide.

Cam looks up sheepishly, from the red squiggle he's been painting. 'It's okay, I don't mind painting.'

'It's cool man, you can play on the laptop today.' Thank the lord. Ian finally comes to my rescue. Cam's eyes brighten. In under two minutes, he's on the laptop playing a racing game.

'Couldn't you do that sooner?' I tell him, 'like before we had to re-do two posters?'

'He's a kid, let him have his fun.' Oh, a patronizing tone. But he gets back to the now freshly drawn banner. Ian can paint, period. It's almost captivating watching him paint every stroke with dexterity and furrowed eyebrows. He hasn't even let me paint anything complex yet.

'So, how was the movie anyway?' I ask, gazing at everything and nothing.

'It was amazing, really. It's like these- Hey! What are you doin-?' He gets up with a jerk and snatches away the paper from my hand.
