Chapter 1: "Do you remember your parents?"
"Yuzuki! Come here!" Sakura said. I looked up from my book to see what she wanted. She had a moth in her hand.
"Kura! I told you I don't care! Let me read!" I yelled. We we're sitting in the grass next to the forest. It was nighttime and the moon was shining bright on us.
"You know you don't need to read that! You know all of it already!" She came over and grabbed my astronomy book from my hands.
"Hey!" I yelled as she ran away. I got up and ran after her. We ran for thirty minutes until I caught up with her. I took the book back.
"You lost my place!" I yelled. I playfully punched my best friend on the arm. She laughed. We laid down on the grass and looked up at the moon.
"Yuzuki?" She said.
"Mmm hmm?"
"Do... Do you remember your parents?"
That question tore me on the inside. Since I was chosen by the Moon and reborn into this body, I couldn't even see a blurry picture of my real parents. The only "parents" I had were Hitoshi and Keiko. They were only sacrifices though.
I swallowed the tears that were about to start. "No, Sakura. I don't."
"Me neither." She said wistfully. We sat there for a while. I could tell by her breathing that Sakura had fallen asleep.
I thought about my life. I could only remember from when I was born.
"You gave your soul to be a child of the Moon. Your chosen." Keiko had said when I had asked her why I was reborn. I was eight years old at the time. I'm fifteen now. I was born in Hokkaido, Japan. It's only an island, but it's in Japan. English is only a second language to me. When I was nine years old I was sent to America to recruit more chosen ones. Me, Sakura, Nozomi, Takeshi, and Tatsuo. The last two are boys.
I looked over at Sakura, and she was laying on her side. I sat up and started to use my powers. I concentrated, and a glittering white-silver light came from my hand. I let it flow out until I was too tired to let anymore come out.
"Anata ga aizu?" Tatsuo said. I looked over to him.
"We're in America, Tat. Speak English." I said. We all were trying to speak only English. We only spoke Japanese in emergencies.
"Fine. You signaled?" He said, rolling his eyes.
"I didn't mean to. I was just messing around."
"You shouldn't just play around like that. You could make one of us risk our lives to find you 'just messing around'." He said, making quotes with his fingers on the last part. Tat is the oldest out of all of us. He is older than me by four months. He thinks that he has complete authority over me because of that.
"I know, I know. You don't have to constantly get on to me about everything, you know. I'm as old as you."
"No you aren't! I'm the oldest!" He yelled.
"What's going on? Oh, hey Tat." Sakura said, waking up from her slumber.
"Tat is just being a jerk because he is on his man period." I said with a giggle.
Sakura smiled. "Oh, he is always on that."
"Shut up! You both come with me. We are leaving." He yelled. Tat has the shortest temper ever.
We walked to the house in silence. We all lived in a very small house together because it was the thing that cost the least money.
"I'm going to sleep. Don't cause any trouble while I'm sleeping. I recommend you two go to sleep because school starts tomorrow." With that, he left the room.
We go to a different school every year so we can get different recruits. This school was going to be different. Moon told me. Well, she didn't tell me, but she gave me the message. I knew it was going to be different.
We are currently living in New York. The kids here are odd. Odd enough to give in to being chosen. Though they weren't as odd as the kids in Los Angeles, California. Those kids were really weird.
I said goodnight to Sakura and went into my room. I drifted off to sleep, with memories of when I was a small child starting this in a new world.
