Chapter 2: Different
"Wake up Yuzuki. It is time to get ready." Nozomi's quiet voice said in my ear. I looked up at her young face. She was only thirteen years old and was the youngest of us. She has always been very quiet. She looked at me with sadness in her brown eyes. I knew she hated doing this.
"I'm up, Zomi. Are you okay? You look sick." I said. I knew the worry was plain on my face because she started shaking her head rapidly.
"No, no. I'm fine. Just fine." She blinked and wiped a tear away. "I'm scared, Zuki. I don't wanna go to a new school. Everyone will hate me because I'm Japanese." She sat down on my makeshift bed.
"It's okay. Who couldn't love you? You are the nicest person I have ever met!" I said as I put my arms around her. She put her head on my shoulder. "I don't want to see you cry, okay? You are perfect. And if anyone else says otherwise, I'll kick their American ass's." She smiled at the profanity. I hardly ever curse, but when I do, I usually do it to mak people laugh. The other times are during fights. How do Americans say it? I am a sailor when it comes to fights.
"Okay." Nozomi sniffed and wiped a tear away. "I'll let you get ready now. I need to get ready too." She got up.
"What time is it?" I asked her.
"About six. Tat wanted me to get you up early. Just in case." She rolled her eyes and went to her "room". She shares a room with Sakura, and I share a room with Takeshi. We have a blanket separating our room. We both hated it, but we could deal with it. Tatsuo got his own room because he was oldest.
I got up and yelled at Takeshi to get up. He groaned. I got my clothes together. They consisted of blue jeans, a black tank top, and my black chain bracelet. I brushed my very light brown hair. I went to our bathroom to check my hair. I stared into my almond eyes. Their color was such a dark brown they seemed black. I went back to my room and grabbed my worn-out backpack.
"I'm leaving!" I called out. "Anyone coming with me?" I knew that we all left together, but I loved saying that to get on Tat's nerves. I smiled inwardly. Sakura walked out of her side of the room. She had light auburn hair with her bangs pushed back with two pins. She had a yellow sundress on. Nozomi came out with a light purple tank top one with blue jean shorts on. She had a brown purse over her shoulder. Her hair was in a loose side ponytail. Her dark hair had red tips. Takeshi came out in a black v-neck and black skinny jeans. His bangs were over his face.
"Tat! Are you coming or not? We are ready!" Sakura shouted. After fifteen minutes, Tat came out. He had a white t-shirt on with blue jeans. His hair was parted on the side. I know I shouldn't say things like this, but he actually looked a little handsome.
"Let's go. We don't want to be late." He said in a tired voice. I wondered what his problem was. We walked out the door.
********
After we had dropped Nozomi of and walked in the school, a few people stared at us. I walked past a group of tough looking guys in letterman jackets. I think they are called jocks. One of the boys grabbed my butt as I walked by. Tat shot him a cold look. I would have shocked the jock on the spot, but since it's sunlight, I am weak. I belong in the dark, but it's light outside.
There are decendants of the Moon, like us, called Silvers, and there are decendants of the Sun, like our enemies, called Golds. They try to kill all of us, because in their heads we are demons. And they are "perfect angels". They are evil, though. They don't deserve all the respect they get. They torture beyond reason. They did that to our old leader.
Kayato was our old leader. He was chosen as our leader by the Moon. We encountered some Golds and they attacked. Kayato fought off with all his might, but their leader was stronger. They tortured Kayato with every bit of energy they had. Tatsuo couldn't take it anymore. He went at their leader, and he beat him. The others were too weak to fight, so they fled. That was three and a half years ago. Since then, Tat has considered himself the leader.
The first class for Tat and I was Geometry. Sakura had Chemestry. Since Takeshi was in ninth grade he had World History. The day went on with boring classes, until lunch hour came. We sat at the same table. We ate in silence as we all looked around for possible chosen ones. I glanced over at the table full of people dressed similar to me. My eyes focused on one guy. He had black hair and grey eyes. His hair was long and swept over to the side. His eyes were a silvery gray that stuck out.
He had a bluish-grey fire in him when I looked with my Silver eyes. I knew instantly he was one. I was focused on the boy when Takeshi tapped on my shoulder. "What?" I asked, a little more rudely than I wanted.
"You see it in that boy too, don't you? Well I see it in that girl sitting across from him. I think it would be easier if you convinced the girl, and I convinced the boy." He said. I was so focused on the boy, that I didn't notice the girl. I looked over at her. She had very short hair, almost like a boy's hair. It was red. She had green eyes. I noticed her flame. I looked back at Takeshi, who was looking at me anxiously. "Is it a deal?"
"It's a deal. I guess." I said and shook his hand.
The rest of the day was very boring. We sat in a few more classes, and after that we went home. We explained our day, and everyone had found someone. We were to get to work tomorrow. Once dark came, I went outside and floated to the roof. I looked up at the Moon and prayed a silent prayer that I could convince the girl or boy. I sat up there and stared at the moon for a few minutes.
I heard a thump on the roof. I hopped up ready to fight. That was one of the best thing about being reborn as a Silver. You get automatic jujutsu, karate, judo, aikido, and all other martial arts. I was ready to fight someone, when I saw Tatsuo. I relaxed.
"Don't scare me like that." I said. He smiled at that.
"You are the one who needs to relax. We are safe. Plus, I would beat you anyways."
"Sure you would. Keep telling yourself that, maybe it will come true." I smiled at him. He came and sat next to me.
"I wanted to ask you something." He said after a few minutes. He looked at me with such intensity. I looked at him.
"Yes?"
He looked at me for a minute, and he shook his head. "Never mind." He gazed at the Moon. He looked sad almost.
"I'm going to sleep. You should go to sleep too." He said. I wanted to ask what's wrong but he left. I decided to go to sleep too. I went to my room. It took a while, but I fell asleep eventually.
Tatsuo POV
I laid awake on my bed for a while. I couldn't stop thinking about her. Yuzuki was so beautiful. I wish she would look at me that way, but obviously she wouldn't. I saw the way she was looking at that boy earlier.
I tried to fall asleep, but I couldn't get her off my mind. I got out of bed in only my pants. I had no shirt on. I went to Yuzuki's room. I watched her as she slept. She looked so younger when she slept. Younger than what she looked when she was trying to be older than me.
After a few minutes I thought I should leave. Before I left, I went over to kiss her. I kissed her quickly, but I let it linger a little. She must have felt it because she kissed back. When I pulled away, she started to say a name.
"Takeshi."
I couldn't believe my ears. I ran out of the room and outside. I got on my knees in the field and screamed as loud as I could.
