When the young girl opened her eyes and looked around she saw the shining rocks and smiled. She always loved watching the stars or anything that resembled stars. Kari stood up, brushed the dirt off of her, packed up her things, and went on her way towards the Hotlands. She kept thinking about the Delta Rune as she neared the Hotlands. Kari made a quick stop to pack up the hoodie Sans gave her then had a quick snack and continued forward.

Once Kari had been in the Hotlands for ten minutes she began sweating nonstop and she felt her energy drain from her with each step. She took about five breaks for every half mile, which would usually only be two breaks. After about three miles of walking Kari came across Sans, who was asleep at a wooden stall which had snow on the roof. Kari stared at the snow in confusion, wondering why it was there in such a hot place, but shook off the thought then went onwards. She did not want to disturb the sleeping skeleton so she let him be. Kari grumbled as she walked onwards, soon seeing a water cooler filled with water. Kari gasped and quickly took a foam cup and filled it with water. She got another, than another, pretty soon she had her fill with a total of thirty-three cups. Kari wiped her mouth then decided to take a cup full of water just incase she needed another drink, but when she was no longer near the water the water in the cup evaporated. The cup evaporated too, which made the child confused but she pressed on and was soon near two guards, both in black armor and holding swords. They were standing in front of the path to the left of where Kari came in. She got a bad feeling about them so she avoided the knights and went into the building just ahead of her. The door was unlocked so she thought it would be okay.

"Hello?" She called out with a gulp. "Uh, a-anyone here?" Kari walked forward and noticed out of the corner of her left eye that there was a giant screen. Kari looked at it then noticed that she was on the screen. She just stared in shock. Was this a mirror or something? "...Hmmm." Kari sat Chase by her feet then began to fix her ponytail, making sure it was to her liking. Once she was done with that Kari gulped then shook a strange feeling off and began to look for a switch to turn the lights on, since it was a little too dark for her liking. She felt around the walls for anything that felt like a switch. "Uh... Uhm... Ah!" She found a switch then flipped in on. The lights turned on with a flash and illuminated the room. "ACK!" Kari covered her eyes due to the sudden brightness, her eyes just needed to adjust. Once Kari reopened her eyes she looked around to see trash all in one area, an old desktop computer to the right of the trash, notes scattered all over the floor, and a figurine. There were two escalators, one going up the other down, on either side of the room and what appeared to be a restroom to the left of the up escalator. Kari went towards the restroom and noticed two yellow scaled feet at the bottom. "Hello?"

"Ah!" A voice stammered from the other side of the door. Kari frowned.

"I'm not gonna hurt you. I promise." Kari said sweetly. The door slowly opened to reveal a yellow reptilian face with glasses. Kari smiled happily. "Hi." She greeted with a small childish giggle, holding Chase close to her chest. "I'm Kari Himura. This is Chase." The creature stepped out of the restroom and stood across from Kari timidly.

"I-I'm Dr. Alphys, I'm king Asgore's royal scientist. B-bu-but you can call me Alphys if you'd like. Hi..." Alphys's voice was soft as she spoke. She wore a pure white lab coat and was a bit taller than Kari. Kari made sure not to make Alphys uncomfortable since it was clear she was shy.

"That's a nice name miss." Kari smiled. Alphys blushed a little bit at the compliment.

"O-oh. U-uh thank you." She said slightly flustered. Kari stepped out of Alphys way so she could walk past the child. "Y-you must be wondering about the monitor, huh?" Alphys asked while walking towards the monitor she was talking about.

"A little bit, yeh." Kari said childishly while holding Chase close and looking up at Alphys.

"Well, uh... I, uh..." Alphys sighed and looked at Kari. "I've been spying on y-you." Kari stared with wide eyes as Alphys continued. "Y-you see, ev-ever since you fell down here in the Ruins I've been watching you on this monitor. I was supposed to be researching you to see how Determination works... But, uh, I kinda got wrapped up in your adventure that I... Forgot my project... It's just when I see something on a screen, it makes me root for the underdog, ya know?" Kari shook her head.
